I know expense comes into it but it is worth having some method of Back up when things have gone awry.

It shouldn't cost anything to get it fixed, it's under warranty. Hopefully

I will probably have to send it back to Gateway.

Gateway, ahhhhh, btw did you specify 2 HDD with the original purchase if not yo umight have voided your warranty

No, but I made sure my parents checked before they bought it that it didn't void the warranty if I installed new stuff. It doesn't but the new stuff isn't covered under the warranty. so if the problem is caused by the HD I installed, there could be a problem

I've also upgraded the graphics card and installed a network card since I got it.

Have you met my parents?

It is just a general rule the word "safe" in fact means
"put somewhere where no one can find it"
Not even the original person who "put it away safely" can ever find it.... It is probably what happened to atlantis, someone thought "i know this place is worth so much, lets put it somewhere safe"....

Hi Gwally

You've arrived at just the right time, I was starting to get a bit chilly with the aircon in this place...

I hope you have sun screen!
BTW, I had problems with my computer not recognizing basic systems a while back. After much gnashing of teeth, it turned out to be the hard drive. Not the drive itself, but the chip that controls the drive (inseparable). I just replaced the drive, reloaded all my programs, and everything works fine. That is, until the next rivet pops.

@Gwally I have two hard drives and the computer doesn't find either of them.
Anyway, I am off to find some books (in a library?

how strange) so unless my computer stages a miraculous recovery I will see everyone tomorrow
