Yeah, I understand that. I never played it competitively (more into cricket and others), but I still played it a bit, and know the rules. We have a league over here, it's only got about 8 teams though, and not really famous, so it doesn't get that much attention. Though everynow and then an Aussie will get into the NBA, the latest was Andrew Bogut.

Sounds good :D .

So, who do you support?

I was on the Christmas holidays, which are 8 weeks. Though that was 4 weeks ago, so I'm into the swing again. Luckily, it's first term, so there's always less work then.

Playing it is the best part, it's the only sport you can play whenever you want because basketball hoops are so easy to find: you just need one of your friends to bring a ball. I haven't heard of the Aussie league, but pretty much everywhere has a league so I assumed it existed. Bogut's pretty darn good too, I'd be proud of that kid :D .

Me? I'm from Detroit and have beena Piston's fan since the day I was born. I'm still reeling from them winning the championship two years ago, and still pissed they got back to the finals (which is incredible, two years in a row) and lost in the final game  . They're doing specatacular this year though, they're not only the best team in the league but they got off to one of the best starts in league history: I just hope they can keep it going for the playoffs, cause that's all that matters. What about you, do you have a favorite team whether American or Aussie?

8 weeks for christmass!? We get 4 and I though that was a ton (we only got 1 and a half in high school  ); is your school on an all-year-round schedule thing?

Seeing as everyone's talking about the Wizard of Oz, has anyone heard of the Dark Side of the Moon sync up? Or seen/heard of the muchkin who killed himself during the film's filming?

Night Rav! :D

Maybe for you guys. The only hoop around where I live is... ours. There are no others in existence. It's probably got to do with that most people perceive it as an American sport, and as such, don't like it. I think it's a great game, and it's great playing it. Glad to hear Bogut's doing well, we had another really good bloke, he's finally retired, I just can't think of his name. He played for a bit in NBA, but I just have a mental block. It'll come to me later.

Nice. Well, my Aussie team would be my city one, the Brisbane Bullets. As for NBA, it would be... can't think at the moment. It probably depends on who my favourite players are playing for.

We get 8 for Chrissy, and 2 weeks for 3 more breaks in the year. And that's the whole 52 weeks.

I see, but what I meant was so long as you know where a hoop is to play you can play with your friends whenever you want. It originated as a pick-up game and it's still the best pick-up game in the world, nothing like it. Bogut was the number one overall pick in the draft this past year and he's doing pretty well. Rookie big men have a harder time adjusting than guards so he's not dominant, but he's very solid. He'll be very good for a long time, already pretty good for that matter.

Brisbane Bullets, I'll remember that. Who are some favorite players? I'll tell you who they play for.

Ah I get the schedule, not all that different than from what we have here, just inverted. ;)

Oh, I get you now. Yeah, that is true. In fact, it is probably the easiest... I suppose our alternative is 'kicking a ball around', in which you simply need a ball, land, and a foot to kick with.

Well that's good to hear... hopefully you'll be seeing him at the Olympics then in a couple of years. :D

I think that my favourite team was the New York Nicks, with Martin and Kidd. Not sure if that is still true though...

Yep, down under, everything is opposites. :D

Need a tip:

Anyone got good lunch ideas? I'm starting to get peckish (have been for awhile in fact), and want something other than sandwiches... but something still easy to make. Any ideas?

*nods* Yes, I wish soccer was more popular around here because though I never played it in school I always liked it and respected it: I've been a fan of the British Premiership for a long time (Chelsea represent! :p ) and am glued to my chair for the few games I get on tv here. Soccer probably is a better pick up sport, come to think of it, if you have the space. In fact you probably don't even need the space if it's just, as you put it, 'kicking the ball around'. You can do that about anywhere.

The New York Knicks are a team, and a famous one at that even though they blow at the moment, but you're referring to the New Jersey Nets circa early 2000's (3 years ago was the last year that lineup was together) with Kenyon MArtin and Jason Kidd. Martin now plays for the Denver nuggets, but Kidd still plays in NJ with Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson and they're still pretty good. More exciting to watch for sure, Carter and Jefferson can run and dunk with the best of 'em. Easy to get the Knicks and Nets mixed up though because NJ and New York are really close to each other and the names are similar; they're big rivals though. :p

*shrugs* Pasta is always easy and relatively quick. You're bound to have something to make sauce with. You got lemons and cream? Tomatoes and basil? Give us a clue :)

I was thinking pasta... the only problem is as you say, the sauce.

I have bottles, but they are for large servings, so that wouldn't work. I have tomatoes, and I'm pretty sure we grow basil in the garden somewhere.

So pasta sounds good, I'll just need help making the sauce... and a general revisal of how to cook it (haven't done it in AGES).

Yeah, even that isn't so famous here, as it has to compete with a heap of other football codes. As it is the only one without tackling, it is often referred to as the 'weak game' etc., so it's not too famous either. But I'm a big fan of it, and glad that Australia made the World Cup!

Ahhh whoops. That's the ones, New Jersey Nets. Didn't realise they had Carter though, he's a legend. I'm sure that his last team didn't give him up without a fight.

Ah, so more along the lines of Rugby or Celtic Football in Australia then? Yes, congrats on the world cup! :D

Yeah you'd think so wouldn't you? Truth of the matter is Carter's a huge baby and put up a huge stink in Toronto (where he played before) because they weren't doing well. He publicly talked about wanting a trade, refused to play hard, would sit out games with injuries if he was so much breathed upon and totally upset any team chemistry on that poor Raptors team. Ownership had to get rid of him and NJ jumped at the chance, and gave up almost absolutely nothing for Vince. Now that he's somewhere new he's playing amazing again, making it a ridiculous steal for the Nets. I hate the guy, though, for what he did to poor Toronto; he's an egotistical ass.

Hmmm, pasta... *drools*

That changes things... I thought he was with Toronto, I just wasn't sure if he had changed between that time (as you can see, I'm a bit out of it lately). In that case, he is no longer a legend, and I share your opinion completely. I don't blame the Raptors, it's just a pity they got such a raw end to the deal then.

That's what I'm thinking, thanks to Fiona :) .
