very true. this will change things and not for the better. those who argue for moderation, peacefull intervention and help will be drowned out by the cries for revenge - across the board.
The US will probably isolate it self from the world even more - just when global co-operation is needed in all fields.

I just heard that there were 92 people on the first plane that hit the WTC and 64 people on the plane that hit the Pentagon. That right there is at least a hundred dead.

I hadn't heard about the State Dept. not happening. Thanks. The whole campus here is watching this on t.v.in the lobby.

I don't know if it's worse than Pearl Hrbor, I wasn't around then, but it is the worst thing that ever happened here in my lifetime.

And I can't get over some of these people here. There is a group of kids laughing and joking about the way people are watching this unfold on the T.V. One made a big joke out of the fact that he was gonna go change the channel to MTV, just for the fun of it. I convinced him to think better of it though. How in the hell can this not affect some people...it's you COUNTRY for Christ's sake.

This was a deliberate planned attack. They have attacked trade centres trying to cripple the US's economic activity. They have attacked a military centre, the Pentagon. This leads me to the fact that it was terrorism. It would only be splinter groups or larger terrorist networks. A nation would not do this I think. The actual intelligence they had must have been amazing. This was cold, calculated and awful. I hope the bastards rot in hell. I'm from England and I hope to God America kick the asses of those who did it. I have no doubt that Britain will be the first to offer military and logistical support to American forces when they go and take care of the twisted ****s that did this. I hope they rot in hell.

i have quite a few Islamic friends and they are probably more pissed off than i am. they are looking at it as not only an attack on their home, but as an attack against their religion. using the name of God in such violence, especially against innocents, is such a violation of what they believe.

That is disturbing...yet...sadly not surprising.

BBC says 164 killed in the AA flights 11 and 77 are confirmed. The casualties will certainly increase a lot as the day go on.

The Beeb said a while ago most people was evacuated from the World Trade centre buildings before they collapsed, but now they haven't said anything more. I really hope they were right.

This is indeed horrific. I think it's going to affact the US a lot, but it will also affect the rest of the world.

What political benefits are any group responible for this, aiming to get?

"the siege" is a great example of what is going on. they attack these targets, not so much to make a political point, but to disrupt the American way of life.

You know, that is absolutly correct Nael. there are several Islamic instructors at the college were I work, and you can see on their face that this is horrifying to them. I hope this doesn't spark any stupid hate crimes in the name of vengence. I mean hell, if a group of Americans did this to another country, I would be pissed.

That said, I still say that some retribution MUST be exacted. And I am not talking about a little smack on the wrist. Whoever did this should be eliminated from the face of the world.

how bad is the security at these airports?
2 came from the same airport...we can start our retaliation by finding the people who obviously deliberately allowed these individuals onto the aircrafts and tearing their limbs from their body.

I just heard that the US military is now at Threat Con Delta.

I just want to see how Bush reacts. I hope to see him take a firm stand on this. I don't see any other way he can handle it. Fortunatly, I believe that he has what it takes to do something about this.

only the bases in the washington DC area are at delta, all othere bases and posts are at charlie

i know Bush has what it takes, but the question still remains...how do you attack a coward who hides in the shadows, allowing gullible fools to do his dirty work.

how cool does that sound? the channel i'm watchign said that it is some flying fortress with every possible device on it which can refual easily in midair, so Bush could just stay in the air for weeks.

That makes probably 8 hijacked (4 missing, 2 WTC, 1 Pentagon, and 1 near Pittsburg [confirmed to be hijacked).

I'm afraid what someone said (sorry, forget who) is true. This will change the US in a negative way. The retaliatory action will be enormous, and it could strain relations with everyone else in the world.

one of the missing aircraft has shown up in cleveland. they were afraid of a bomb being on board and went off route to land at the closest available airport.

im not sure they think like that. they will look at it as revenge for crimes commited by the US. they wont look to the future i think.

This wont weaken the US as a global power nor will it stop them from supporting the israel govnerment. this was revenge.

I agree with you both here, I really hope this will not lead to wave of hate towards groups of people who happen to have the same national origin as a presumed terrorist group. Should it turn out that the responible organisation is of Taliban, Arabian, Palestinian or what ever background, I hope everybody realises terrorists are terrorists, not representing their contries or their religions.

Northern Ireland as a community is not supporting the real IRA.

that i think is unlikely. there is no major power that will step in and fight. Russia no. China no. any world war is stopped by the nukes. if it does come it will com hard and fast - complete anialation of both sides.

although china only have 50 nukes at this time.
