Hiya DJV and Fiona...

That's okay

.
Ouch, we aren't that bad, most people 30 + don't binge drink. Though at lot of binge drinking occurs at 'Schoolies', the end of senior school party at a city in Queensland. It's basically one big drinking fest, along with a bunch of other criminal activities.
And funnily enough, I have to do a debate on that in a couple of weeks.
Hi Rav.

Morning Rav
Ouch, debates. Rather you than me. Which side?

I love debating, it's a great challenge.
That's the problem, the people that run it (it's a state wide competition), have been slack lately. As such, we don't know whether we are for or against, so that makes it somewhat more difficult.
As a result of that kind of stuff, we were screwed over last year, when we were landed in a big mess, that ended up with has having forfeitied a debate we didn't know we had. I was not happy, and send a rather large complaint... and I didn't even receive a reply.

Oooh I hate when that happens. I cannot believe people don't even respond to letters, though it happens a lot here too. It is a good tactic for them because you run out of steam when you are totally blocked like that - nowhere to go really. But it is really inexcusable.

The height of rudeness, that's what I think.
But that anger has not disappeared, I consider it fuel. For this reason, I am determined to go well this year, and will not give up.

Good for you, DJ. You are in a team, I surmise? Is it run through school?

by dj_venom
Yeah, through school, and the team is a couple of my friends.
We've been doing it for a few years, though one guy quit so we subbed in someone else.
The best we've gone is to reach the second round... we didn't last

.
The second round is winning 3/4 debates, and if you forfeit, you become ineligble.

What do you like about it?

Hmm. Interesting....
I'm freezing here...I just got told to hang washhing in those temperatures.

Sorry to hear you are cold, Ravager. I'd suggest toddy, but it is not your thing, I know. Hot chocolate is good. Have you got any?

I love the whole arguing thing, always have. Growing up, I always argued, defending my points... still do today. As such, debating is just natural... and it's also part of the reason I want to study law

.
Unlucky Rav, make sure you put socks on, that always helps.

Yeah, I think so, though it was only my hands that were freezing not helped by having to deal with a bunch of pegs...
Anyway, slowly warming up now.

Well I like to argue too. I just can't handle the performance element. I quite envy folk that can do that, though. It is a good skill to have. Though I have reservations about encouraging people to make a good case they don't believe in. Fine as an exercise, but for politicians (and lawyers

) it seems to become a professional deformity so truth ends up being whatever they can make someone else believe. But I am sure you are immune to that

The truth is what I say is the truth

.
Nah, that is one of the major things I have a problem with. Like one of our debates last year was 'That royalty is a relic from the past', which basically meant, 'They are something that should be removed from current society, and serve no useful purpose'. Now, as offensive as it might be the Britts out there, I am affirmative on that topic, however we were given the negative side. As such, we have 4 members, so I chose to sit out that debate. As I truly couldn't argue it properly.
But normally I have no worries, and can argue anything.

Oh, it's easy enough to argue why to keep them...the amount of tourism revenue they bring in.

er....when you say offensive to the brits, I should point out we are not all the same. I'd abolish them tomorrow, and a lot of Scots agree.
@ Rav.

Whoops, mix-up, English, not the Britts, my mistake Fiona.
Though of course, all this is stereotype anyway, so don't take it too seriously.
Then join us Australians, we've gotten rid of any power the English/Crown had over us. Now we simply use them as an excuse to participate in the Commonwealth games

.
@Rav: Yes, but that doesn't make them any less of a relic, as I'm sure the Vatican would love to regale you about the amount of money gained from their relics on show

.

It is true that they do bring in a lot of money that way though.
The amount of money they get to spend probably compensates though.
I'm no fan of them either...
@DJV, not all relics are bad...

Oooh I just got another threatening letter from the tv licensing people to add to my collection
