Hi Georgi, my fellow night owl :) How are you doing?

When I was a teenager, I used to stay up all night. When I was a university student, I used to stay up all night. Now I've been working for 2.5 years, and I'm still up all night. *Sigh*

I'm good... well, given that my next seminar is midday on Monday... :D

Hmmm, I bet you used to have better reasons for staying up all night when you were a student and a teenager ;)

Nice - a long weekend for you :D

I've never had good reasons to stay up all night :D Except maybe nights before exams

Oh yes, it's nice being an arts student... :D

I know that one... plus the night before my coursework deadline... "Hmmm, this 2000-word essay is due in *looks at clock* 12 hours' time... better start doing the reading for it..." :D :p ;)

Sorry for the delay - tech problems

I only studied art for 1 year - when I was 16. I don't remember spending many hours in school :D

You and I seem to have the same study strategy :D Bad news for you is that I haven't changed - it's still like "Tomorrow I have this big international presentation - perhaps I should start thinking about what to say?" When I was speaking at the World Congress in psychology, I was so late making my slides so I had to pick them up from the photo department by taxi just before I went to the congress hall  :D

Oh, I don't mean art student (I gave that up a long time ago, I really sucked :D ), I mean arts student, as in 'liberal arts' - English, History, Philosophy and such ;) The kind who have 3 seminars a week :D and are supposed to spend the rest of the time in the library... ;)

LOL :D You must be the spontaneous type :D Oh well, last minute has always worked for me... ;)

Ah, sorry, for a moment I forgot what courses you are taking. I can't think a straight thought at the moment. At Swedish universities, the distictions natural sciences (eg physics, biology), social sciences (eg sociology, economics) and "humaniora" (eg languages, literature, history, religion). Would arts be the same as humaniora? It sounds like the same - and the pattern of 2-3 seminars/week and "self studying" the rest of the time, is a familiar pattern :D

I am a rather spontaneous type, or "impulse control impaired", as my mean colleagues sometimes say :D I have made last minute into an art :D

Yes, sounds like it... arts are sometimes called humanities... but there are subjects that would be humanities that wouldn't be arts... Geography, for instance... All too confusing :D

LOL :D I always have the best intentions to get these things done in advance, but somehow it just never happens... ;)

Here, Geography is split in two, natural geography and culture geography.

I actually gave up my good intentions the first year at uni. I realised I wasn't going to change anyway, so I stopped trying to work against it, and learned to use it to my advantage instead. Worked great :D Still does, althought I doubt how healthy it is to let loose all those stress hormones in your system

I don't know too much about Geography at university level... but it's not part of the Faculty of Arts, and I know at school it was considered a humanity ;)

Hmmm, maybe I should try that... :D All the caffeine it takes is probably a bad thing too... ;) I don't need it to stay up late, just to cope with not sleeping for over 24 hours... :D

Many years of hard training has made my body accustomed to not sleeping for long periods  Caffeine doesn't work very well for me, sugar is better.

Try it, but don't overuse it unless you need a very painful weight-loosing strategy

Well, fortunately I mostly get all the sleep I need, since when I'm up at 4am *glances at the time* ;) I don't have to get up early the next day :D It's just when I have deadlines...

Argh - I really must catch some sleep.

I will however end this pleasant conversation with a first lesson in the Art of The Last Minute:

Lesson 1: Learn how to forget totally about your assignment, until it's so little time left that any sensible person would say it's not time enough. It's essential to forget the assignment as soon as possible, preferrable the same day as you first get to know about it.
When you get information about an assignment, take a short moment to calculate how much time you need you do it. Then subtract this time from the time when the exam/deadline occurs. Then use your calender and/or computer software to remind you when the time you have assigned, starts. A good idea is to use some software who can give you pop-up alarms at a set time. Then you can write to yourself "Now 32 hours left to 5000 word essay deadline" and other encouraging stuff.

Good luck and good night! :D Lesson 2 will follow :D
