A new avatar from the most startling scene from FotR (for me anyway). I rather like this one, and may keep it around for a while.

Hehe...that was a cool scene...but it was only slightly startling.
Ive seen "The Shining" way too much to get startled from an elderly hobbit with a hunger for a ring. Though I was surprised that he did that at that time.
Works well for an avy, and thats a fun fun fact.

I guess I just got into the movie more, since I jumped a foot when it happened (and I'd read the books and knew it was coming)! 
The fact that I've seen the Exorcist, Jaws, the Shining, etc. didn't have any bearing on it. A great freak out scene, and a cool avatar.

Or maybe its because you saw it in the theatre, which makes it feel more real, and gets you into it more. While I just saw it on DVD.

Did you see the expanded edition or the plain vanilla version?

Plain old vanilla. But maybe I should see the extended version, because Im sure its offered on the DVD. I just jumped right into the movie, without looking at too many options.

Well the expanded DVD is a special 4-disc set with an 30 extra minutes of footage built in (and was only released this November). It's bad-ass, though it's probably best to start off with the original since even Peter Jackson admits the pacing is a bit off with all the extra footage (but it's damn cool to watch).
