Men, Women and BG (1 and 2)

I sit here and think....is it already too late for me... My dad is dead, and I only have a sister.(no brother's) and she has two girls and I have one. ( Some adding here.....

Mother 1.
Sister 1.
Two nieces 2.
My little girl 1.
My wife 1.
Total 6. women

Me 1.
My brother in law 1.
Total 2. men

so this means 3 to 1 odds men will be wiped out. Any bets???

@Fable: Sorry if I pointed out something obvious, but sometimes I'm almost scared of what media makes of scientific findings. That's why I fall into those rambles every now and then

One of the labs at my university invented a method for replacing degenerated brain cells in patients with Parkinsons disease. They inserted a few thousand cells (compare to the estimate of 100 million cells in the brain).
Swedish newspapers wrote: "Brain transplantaion performed by Swedish scientists".

@CE That could well be accurate after all. I know some people that I'm pretty sure only have a few thousand brain cells to begin with.

Of course I turned the Y chromosome thing into a bit of a joke because my own defective Y makes me unable to take things seriously... But the consequences of the way the Y evolved *do* make it less able to adapt. I don't find anything sensational about that. It's just one of those fun facts.

I love the media. The press over here are really into 'doctor-bashing' at the minute. Although I realise that someimes professionals are negligent, I wish they would get somebody who had a medical background to write these articles. All it ends up as is sensationalist journalism and you can tell they're just copying phrases they've read somewhere verbatim and not using the miniscule brains they actually possess.

Y-chromosomes are a defective X? I don't really buy that. There would be no impetus to reproduce if there wasn't some pleasure attached. And I certainly wouldn't go through the agony of having a kid if reproduction was asexual.

Although I realise that someimes professionals are negligent, I wish they would get somebody who had a medical background to write these articles. All it ends up as is sensationalist journalism and you can tell they're just copying phrases they've read somewhere verbatim and not using the miniscule brains they actually possess.

But brains aren't in the qualifications for the media. They just have to put together words after a fashion that will get the eyes of as many people as possible--read lowest common denominator--and therefore sell the most ads. That's journalism. In many cases, it's not a method of dispersing information, but a commodity.

That's not to say intelligent journalism is extinct. You'll find it in a lot of smaller journals, usually aimed at various professions. But they're also out of the competition for the big bucks. Look where the spotlight is, and there you'll find the clowns.
