--Bailed England and France out in 1917
--Bailed England and France out (and the rest of western Europe) in 1941
--Bailed England and France out (and the rest of western Europe) by single handedly rebuilding their economies in 1948 through the marshall plan
--Bailed England and France out (and the rest of western Europe) during the Cold War
-- Continue to pledge to bail England and France out (and the rest of western Europe) should the need ever arise again
-- Been propping up the world economy (though admittly to our advantage too) since the late 1800's, including stopping numerous almost world wide recessions, the most recent being the 1997 crisis which toppled the Asian economies, sent Europe Canada and South America into a slide, but stopped at the US (prompting recovery), and the most recent recession which the US is coming out of
-- Liberated the following countries from dictatorships or occupation at the risk of American lives in the past 2 decades: Serbia, Kuwait, Panama, Grenada, the entire Communist world (minus Cuba and China), Afghanistan (which is better off under a joint coalition government then controlled by either the Northern Alliance or Taliban).
-- When disaster strikes another nation, American aid agencies are often some of the first in line to help, not to mention America often gives direct aid, and while we are at it, many private citzens contribute to help also.
-- When disaster strikes the US no one lifts a damn finger but we dont hold it against them
-- America is the strongest nation in the world and yet it didnt aquire this position by conquest (Mexican War the exception)
-- While we may not always do the right thing, generally speaking, most of the time we are trying too.

You know a lot of people like to trash America, and I think I kind of know why. For eons and eons nations reached the pinnacle of their power by aggression and enforcing their will, and then once there, try to keep it through the same means.

While America has made a fine mess of things numerous times in the past, generally speaking, we have always thought we were doing the best thing. Even from slavery (where most Americans honestly felt slaves werent ready to take part in society) to our "modern day Imperalism", we really do think we are doing good.

Maybe this is just blowing the worlds mind, that the world power is gracious. We dont have a huge military, we dont want to enforce our will. We basically stumbled onto our power, we didnt search for it, and consquently, America is almost embarrassed ot have it (hence our need to give away our wealth often times)

I think everyone needs to get off our backs, take a deep breath, and consider. What if YOUR nation was in our position? Many of your nations have been before. What would (had) your nation do (done)? Could you rely on them to be as, well, NOT dominating as America is? (Canadians excuse yourself from this question please ;)

jessus, this was supposed to be a fun thread(i know, i started it :p ) this wasn't exactly "what can we hold against the americans, when we look back 500 years" you know. you wouldn't happen to be George W. Bush GNG? :D

one thing i'd like to know is what you hold as a comparison to make US the most powerful nation in the world? it's not militarism, since even a small nation can wipe out human race by simply launching a nuclear missile to some other country that also has nuclear weapons. economics is hardly something to compare since you do have your problems, as every nation does. I ain't trying to get a war in the SYM *throws petrol in the fire  ;) :D * everybody thinks US is the land of future etc. maybe they're right, maybe they're wrong, but this was a thread dedicated to things that are silly and of course to spam

If Australia was the world's superpower (Deity/supernatural force of choice forbid!) I'd badmouth it just the same as I do the US, and much the same as I badmouth the insignificant little slagpit of a country I live in anyway. :D

Ahem! Who is helping to remove Taliban presence in Afghanistan? Who helped by promising DIRECT aid to the USA? I think you forget that Britain are always the first people to help the USA, you know that the UK and USA have ties beyond history.
