A rich man's son was kidnapped. The ransom note told him to bring a valuable diamond to a phone booth in the middle of a public park. Plainclothes police officers surrounded the park, intending to follow the criminal or his messenger. The rich man arrived at the phone booth and followed instructions but the police were powerless to prevent the diamond from leaving the park and reaching the crafty villain. What did he do?
The police must have surrounded another park :p

No, they were all at the right park :D

Clearly, the criminal didn't turn up in person but gave instructions to the rich man through the phone.

But it's still not the complete answer...

Or he dig a tunnel underground to the phone booth, and instructed the rich man to drop the diamond in there... or something... :D Any hints?

Keep on going... this isn't the easiest or most obvious of riddles :D

But then I do get a bit fed up of them being solved in five minutes flat :p

LOL! No tunneling... good guess. :D

Well in my case it'll take at least a day :D
No hints at all?

--> Did the rich man take the diamond out of the park or the criminal? <--

Ok, lol, this time it's a couple (two) of answers:

Perhaps his job was to pick up phone booths in trucks and take them out of parks.
And I tried to make it funny, but it's also a serious answer.

Along the same lines, the phone was damaged and being removed.

Here's a big clue for you: Neither took the diamond out. But the diamond still ended up in the hands of the criminal :D

Not the right answer, dj :(

 I really have no clue then! :D

Another clue:

The police could see the diamond leaving the park (or at least how it was leaving) but were powerless to interfere.

Hope that helps a bit. :)

For the park diamond riddle: does it involve a homing pigeon

by Ravager
That's it. Well done Lestat.

This is a true story from Taiwan. When the rich man reached the phone booth he found a carrier pigeon in a cage. It had a message attached telling the man to put the diamond in a small bag which was around the pigeon's neck and to release the bird.
When the man did this the police were powerless to follow the bird as it returned across the city to its owner.

It was a good riddle. :D

And another one, to keep you all going:

If you were to spell out numbers, how far would you have to go until you would find the letter "A"?

Good, I like it :)

Lestat did you figure it by yourself?

--> 1000? This is too easy, there must be a trick... Spell out numbers? Well, if it means writing them down you would never get to "A" since you write numbers with numbers, obviously... <--

It is that simple. Thought I'd try to trick people after the last one. :p

Damn, I was away and missed that riddle, I knew it. As for the homing pigeon, well, I knew that one too ;)

Anyway, I'm ready now.

Of course you did. :D

Okay, one more, before I try to get some lunch...

Old Mother Twitchett had but one eye, and a long tail which she let fly; and every time she went through a gap, a bit of her tail she left in a trap.

What is she?

*beaming* Yep. (I was typing the answer while Ravager was typing his hint of the previous post).

*sigh* Correct again. No fish & chips lunch for me.. the place was closed :(

Here's another:
