Foul did you do something to that c-o-c-kroach to make it scream, before you ate it???

How you eat them is sort of like a crab crossed with an oyster, except they're alive. You pull the wings off and break the carapace in half, and suck out the contents of the chest cavity. The one I ate grabbed me by the fingers and drew blood. Food that fights back: the vegetarians in the crowd should like that one.</STRONG>
DP: That is what I did to make it scream :)

Part of a disected sheeps eye. It was a dare back in high school. Three of us were the only one who could do it. It was ok until you bit down and all the gooey eye fluid drained out... rather unpleasant really. :(

Still, I got the respect of my peers ;) :D

I've eaten a c*ckr**ch, too. Luckily, I was too small at the time to remember it properly now. This was before I learned to walk; the d*ng thing just crawled down my throat. Freaked my mother out. As I did later, when I ate a waterglass. And a shaker of pepper.

With all of these traumatic incidents, it's no wonder that I like anchovy paste. <snicker>

Foul, likely I missed the reason you were in Surinam, while I was losing the remnants of my last meal after reading about those maggots and the screaming ****roach. Would you mind terribly explaining why you were there, what led you to partake of this icthiological feast, and what were your various emotions as you did so? :)

Well, vegetarians like too eat living things that can't run as quickly.

@Outsider: I've also eaten about a half glass, by mistake, mind you.

Insect- and arachnoid-wise I've only eaten mosquitos, a small spider, termites and ants. None tasted much. I considered having some large living beetles for breakfast at one occasion, but they were so pretty I had noodles instead. (Must be a stupid cultural habit that I'm reluctant too eat cute bugs, but I can eat "cute" lambs.)

Maggots are OK. Frog too. Rattlesnake is good. Most disgusting food I've had, except from every time I try to cook, was boiled seal. I'd very much like to try seal's eyes. It's supposed to be very good and they pop in your mouth when you chew :)

@CE: You fit into this place particularly well... :D :D

Another thing I absolutely hate is a kind of salted squid gut... It smells ghastly, and is horrible to look at... it's pink with black things in it!!

But octopus, Minerva, is a delightful dish, as your rival for the hearts of Athens, Neptune, would surely have pointed out. And so is escargo in garlic sauce, which is slightly higher, admittedly, than insects on the food and intellectual chain, but not by much. I've been pestered by telemarketers who took a back seat to both.

I can't recall ever having eaten insects, curiously enough. It must have to do with the fact that I've spent most of my life in the US, except for some extended forays into Venezuela, Hungary, and Bulgaria. Probably the eco-system of the Amazonia fostered insect eating, but we didn't get any of it. More's the pity, though I'd frankly prefer having my food dead when it's served. Lazy, I know.

@fable: I don't deny that, though I am not particularly fond of octopus nor squid. But I am talking about 'gut' of squid, which is disgusting (to me, anyway). You must see it to understand what I mean, really... :D

BTW, there is a dish with locusts in Japan. I have tried once... Not as bad as somepeople may think, though I would rather not to try again. :D :D

C "Elegant"-- FYI, no further talk of slaying seals and eating them will be tolerated. :(

Hey! @Foul, I still want to know why you were in Surinam, and whether you had any ulterior motive for eating crunchy, living lower terrestial lifeforms whose legs touch all kinds of things. :D

Fable: You must have missed my earlier post where I answered this question. I was dating a girl who lived in both Miami, FL and Surinam. I went to visit her home in S.A., and went down to the local village with her. In the market, they had these things, and she ate one. So, naturally, I had to. She was an incredibly gorgeous latin woman, lustrous long black hair and T&A like the gods are jealous of...
