Capybaras are just too damn cool. They're like a hamster that was bombarded with gamma rays to become a hamster hulk. :D

Felines, from the "domesticated" cats to the large cats.

I love their grace, their deeply affectionate --yet independent-- natures, and their air of collected serenity. :)

I also like animals that produce some kind of constructions, like spiders and butterflies and such.

And tiny things that have societys like ants and bees...

You'd love this New Guinean bird, I don't remember the name of the species, but the male builds not only huge nests but also gardens, to attract females. The are very funny to study, they build complex structures using a variety of materials such as twigs, rocks and fresh plants. Thay also opportunistically steal from their neighbour when he is away. Reminds me a lot of surburbian house owners :D ;)

Also, you should love termites who both contructs buildings and have highly organised societies. And, they are good to eat :D

PS Did you know that homosexual behaviour has now been reported in hundrereds of different species, birds, felines, primates...

lol :D Yes, I would probably love them. :D I usally prefer animals that build other structures than nests. Or builds them of a material they produce by them selfs... although gardens are extremely funny. :D

And yes, I like termites too. :)

I did only know it was observed among many different mammals. :) Probably a good thing as it might effect peoples opinions on what is "natural" ... How I hate that word... ;)

Silur?

My animal tastes coincide perfectly with Dottie's, so I shall allow him to speak my opinions here :D

Big up:
Pangolins
Giant Tree Kangaroos
Pikachus

among birds- crows(smart and sneaky) and not as stuck up looking as eagles
among mammals- toss up between mongoose and wolf (hence my siberian huskie fetish)
among reptiles- chameleons, corn snakes
among insects- beetles (because they look like tanks)
among crustaceans- lobsters (tasty)
among fish- sharks

The Sun :D

Another very cool animal is Aplysia, the cute sea snail that is to us neuroscientists what C Elegans is for the geneticists. Research on Aplysia have given us fundamental knowledge about the nerve cell, the mechanisms of neural transmission and how learning can occur in the nervous system. :)

Crows are resourceful and cunning. :D Amongst the raptors, I prefer falcons or hawks to eagles...with one exception. The golden eagle of North America is exceedingly cool. I knew someone who kept a bird that had been maimed in the wild, and it was fantastic to be around.

Your choice of mammals is to be commended. :D

Reptiles: Great choices. Amongst snakes, I like the Boa Constrictor. Amongst lizards, I like the Nile Monitor...sleek, powerful, and beautiful to look at. Second place: iguanas.

Insects: The beetle has to be the coolest, I agree. I have watched ants swarm over a beetle. I watched this beetle toss them off, flip over, and walk away unscathed. Not only are they well-armored, but they are very powerful.

my sentimets exactly, capybaras are the best!
big cats like tigers and lions are cool too, if it wouldn't hurt the animal and i'd be rich i'd like to have a tiger as a pet, (think what it'd be like to wake up in the morning to realize you have a 200 pound kitty-cat sleeping over your legs :D just brings a grin on my face

*eek*One of my cats is about 20 pounds, and likes to sleep as close to me as he possibly can. Quite often he will wrap his front paws around my throat, bury his head into my neck and then proceed to purr like a buzz saw. :D I hate to think what it would be like to have a cat ten times his size doing the same!
