I'd like both you, HLD, Dottie and Georgi in my team - all against Ode
However, I wonder if it wouldn't be more fun to split in smaller groups or pairs, rather than two teams, since more topics can be discussed simultaneusly that way. Another alternative is of course to keep each debate fairly short, ie 2-3 X number of words posts each and no more.

I think we should have an impartial person draw names from a hat and place the pairs

Murky stage? Hmpf!
[old crotchity voice on]Alright, pretty lady, let's take on those young whipper-snappers! Back in my day, talk like that would have gotten your hand run through the wringer a time or two! If I could remember where I put my cane, I'd show that Ode to a Grasshopper a good old-fashioned southern whuppin'![/old crotchity voice off]
I'm game for any format, either individually or in teams.

Im very suprised by this, I wonder if you can guess why.

Im for pairs as well, most opinions can be aproached from quite different angels, and it would simplify things to not have to discuss aproaches with your team first.

Okay, i'll take you all on, but as a handicap I suggest you all be limited to words of no more than one syllable...

@HLD: ROFL

I'll stuff my hairpiece down Ode's throat
@Dottie: I'm game for any format, but like you say, pairs is easier, we can cover more topics and I also think it would be fun that all meet all. If Sleep can't come with enough subjects, we could invent topics for each other. (for instance, I'd love to hear Dottie argue for a capitalistic system, and HLD argue for the existance of fairies

)
On the other hands teams would also be funny, so I have nothing against it.

Too easy, C Elegans; all you have to do is go to SoHo or San Francisco and they're everywhere . . .

I figure i can come up with the necessary topics, the question is esoteric or practical or a mix of both.
An important component of this idea is that everyone discusses their opinion rather than forcing an ideal, so if i pick on a subject one feels strongly about it doesn't become a preaching issue, the idea is to argue as strongly for both sides.
Okay so now we have:
Ode
CE
Frogus
HLD
Dottie
That makes 5, we need another if we are to make the teams numerically equal. As i see it the team thing would only work if we mixed the teams, just so it doesn't become too stilted towards one side (no offence intended). Seems the current leaning is against teams, i am alright with that, if everyone agrees then i am alright with that.
I guess i will be the adjudicator in all this then?
I also like the idea of making it a set number of replies, i think it will make things more interesting that way. I could set up a thread for votes on each subject and then take the results and delete the threads...(i just need to delete
something!

) Any more ideas?

Sorry...can't quite figure out what this sentence means. Are you saying that we should argue our opinions? I thought the whole fun of it was that we were
not arguing our opinions!
Anyway, here's some ideas and complications (yay I know how to make a list

)
- I believe that we all have similar opinions on important issues. IIRC me, CE, Dot and HLD were all the same religion (according to fables Belief-O-Matic), and since then I have scored the same results as HLD and Dottie on several other tests.
- We could just have a game in which we all think up an idea completely opposed to what a person believes in, and then have them take on everyone else over a limited number of posts to try and argue for it convincingly.
- I think pairs would be more fun if we're going to have straight debates (although I'm perfectly willing to play individually). I think it'd be good to hold out for three more people so we can play two debates, and then the winner of each battle it out.

*clears the fog that has enveloped sleep's mind* Yeah that is the idea, no opinions no bias just the topic at hand. Ignore my previous statement, put it down to a little to much psychedilia

You are right, Don't argue opinions, stick to the facts jack!

That sounds like a plan, but i think there has to be a single person (me at the moment) that decides what is and isn't argued, otherwise it would be chaos

Again i agree, i like the idea of battling it out

Finding three others could be interesting though
Just a thought (speculative joke) whoever wins gets a free controversial post where they are allowed to state an entirely ridiculous opinion, it can't be argued and will be taken as entirely serious
