Dammit! I missed an entire conversation again. This having to sleep thing is really getting annoying :D

@Mr Sleep, thanks for the info on th KT133 problem. Do you know if it's OS specific?

I'm currenty running on a Gigabyte GA7-DXR+ with onboard RAID1 and the AMD 761 northbridge. I've had this board for nearly a year now so it's just about time for another upgrade.

It was one of the first DDR Athlon boards to come out. It has served me well though, no problems at all. :)

I've got a Gigabyte GA-7DXR, pretty much the same as Flibs' but without a + (what does that mean??? :D ) and I've had absolutely no problems with it. Thumbs up from me... :)

Oh and Mr. Flibble, do you know how I can turm off the check that the board does during startup for RAID & UDMA100 devices, 'cos it adds a whole heap of time to my startup and I'm still in the dark ages of the ATA33 single-drive setup  :p

@Kameleon, I think the closest you can get to disabling the RAID controller is to set it to ATA100 mode. There's a jumper (JP54) next to IDE ports 3 and 4 that should set this. By default it's set to off though.

Just out of curiousity, what are you thinking of upgrading to? :)

I haven't really decided yet. I'm currently loking at an Asus A7V333, 512MB PC2700 DDR memory and an Athlon XP 2000+. I'm defnintely staying with AMD, but there haven't been any major improvements to the Athlons for a little while now, so I'm kinda waiting to see what AMD come up with next. The big issue for me is an ATA RAID controller, and not many (or probably no) Intel platforms include this.

It's amazing how much I spend on this machine. Definitely an addiction. :D

OK, thanks. I just realised I haven't opened my computer up for months - that situation must be rectified immediately :D

And do you know what the + is that is the difference between your mobo and mine? Just curious...

The GA7-DXR has an ATA100 RAID controller whereas the + model has an ATA133 controller. Other than that they're identical. :)
