I admit, I shared Foul's reaction to that opening post, and probably because my childhood and early teens were abusive. Still, posting about it seems a little like showing up dressed as The Red Death at Cinderella's wedding.

That said, if you had a great childhood, with a supportive family and plenty of friends, cherish it. Build upon it, and feel free to discuss it on this board. Use that environment as a platform to create new relationships in reallife. Because the rest of us are looking to examples like that, even as we do a designer genes number while we develop and grow our own adult lives.

Yes, and so did I. I did not write the original post - it was a copied email, but I could relate to some of it, and those parts I did brought a smile to my face. Posting it was not intended to imply that childhood is perfect, only that there are some areas of magic most of us can draw on...however dampened by RL. There is something there that allows kids to survive where adults would not necessarily find the strength to.

As you say, we continue to grow. At some point we have to effect the person we have/will become by drawing on the strengths of all that is good around us. If we continue to look back, we will never find the space to look forward. :)

Watch it, CroakBoy. I'll have you know "reallife" isn't a newspeak version of anything, but simply the ongoing development of a language. Reallife has a genuine meaning. Save your toadly stomuch acid for "nuclear device," "downsized," and "police action." ;)

Frogus: You'll have to forgive poor, misguided fable. He PM'd me earlier and told me that he likes you, but you intimidate him. His tone in the above post is not intential, but a natural response to your august presence. He likes you so much he described you as "the coolest new guy in the...SYM group...his striated comments attenuate us all-- we learn a lot...the paucity of his knowledge is outstanding...." and so on.

Ysh: "No such thing as serious nihilism" ?! What on earth are you trying to communicate?! Curious minds want to know.

Fable: Go **** yourself, assiduous, Quixotic bastard.
