@Drakron:
It is possible to deal with Shangalar & Co. at relatively low level! Say, level 13 or so.
Tools needed:
1. Tansheron's Bow
2. Boots of Speed
3. Bit of luck
4. Heaps of summoning spells, especially Spider Spawn.
5. Protection from Evil 10'
When you are teleported in, open the "door" behind you and push all your party on the stairs in the alclove. Send one with the Boots of Speed to trigger the events. After the initial dialogue run back to the stairs.
Shangalar will teleport himself in the alclove, cast Simulacrum, then Time Stop. Now the (real) Shangalar decides to approach you. He is slow in movement so the Time Stop is over when he comes to you. Kill him, then catch the bow and kill the simulacrum. So much for Shangalar.
Send Sword Spiders in the room. In my case, the second Eightlegs One got Vaxal (the beholder).
Now, the worst problem is Shyrezza (the vampire - it drains 4 levels/attack). Hope that the mage gates in a Pit Fiend (she usually does so). The Shangalar's guys aren't protected from evil. "Damned!", should the mage say...
The Pit Fiend is helpless against Protection from Evil. Simply go and kill it.

I'm sure he must be, Keldorn, but I think you mean "hanged." (Silly Americans.)
That belongs in the top 10 things heard in BGII that sound dirty but are not!

O.K. time to 'fess up'. Doh moment's for Curdis:
No 1. and still top -> Not realising that magic rings and necklaces would go into a gem bag until it was posted on this forum.
No 2. Not realizing that the Buyer's buy price is completely uneffected by reputation and charisma (until last night).
No 3. Soloing a F/M/T and getting to the emphatic manifestation and THEN realising I can't cast any healing WHAT-SO-EVER (I'm C.E. so my Bhaal powers don't include cure light). That was last night too.
Doh doh doh doh doh - Curdis

What about Jan's burping comment where he mentions "turnip reflex"? He means "reflux", right?

I once maxed my assassin to over 3m when doing the skinner murders with Keldron, Edwin and Yoshimo just to get her thieving abilities maxed then went down stairs and confronted the rune people in the basement and got everyone killed, had no savedgame - D'oh

He he he,
No 4. Rolled a fighter type got great stats like a total of 97 points AND rolled an 18/00 strength. Wanted to dual to mage no problem with an 18 int, selected human, choose Barbarian as kit....Doh.
No 5. Couldn't heal the emphatic manifestation so decided to slightly break the solo code and go and get Keldorn (as he was close) to come and heal/lay on hands. Got him downstairs and DOH he's an inquisitor - No Spells, No lay on hands. At least it forced me to reload and get the gloves of healing so that I didn't break the solo code.... - Curdis ( a life of Doh)

I really messed up with dual_classing once. I thought that I can advance with my Kensai to level 19 and then dual class to a mage and gain all levels for a mage. But when I reached 2950000 exp points I realized that I can't dual class!!! What a burn!

Are you ready for some doh action, how about these
1) killing the sailor who took you while in asylum, then forgetting to pick up the blade of the silver sword, then realising when i was in the underdark that i no longer had it
2)killing valygar and ****ing myself out of crom fayer
3)taking down elder orbs early in the game only to have jaheira frozen then when she is unfrozen she has to go to the harper hold, **** that.
4) and now for the big one, choosing to be a wizard slayer, and figureing in my first major battle that a) HE CANT USE POTIONS OR MAGICAL ITEMS AT ALL and b) that his spells are ****

Valygar's essential for getting one of the ingredients of crom fayer

If you kill Gall the unseeing eye leader before he gives you the key, there is absolutely no way of opening that door, which means you can not do the Kangaxx misiion or free the undead.
Even more annoying was getting the key but then killing Gaal. Unseeing Eye appears. You've got no option but to kick his round ass but then once he's dead there's no way to get the rift device. So no shield and no device!

valygar is the only person who can enter the planar sphere; inside one of the nasties has one of the items required for the hammer, namely gauntlets of ogre power.

You can kill Valygar and use his dead body to open the Planar sphere.

But thats such a mercenary approach

would work if you didnt want to change your party though i spose... but then do you not get to fight Togerias and get the ring of the ram?

Ah, that's the one you meant. Yeah, I just threw his corpse into my bag of holding and tossed it over the threshold of the Planar Sphere. Thanks for clarifying.
