I offer my condolences to the families of the people that have lost their lives in this tragedy.
It is a sad day and it sickens me.

For all i know what i posted might also be incoorect, no one can be 100% sure. It will be a few hours yet before any definitive statemnt is out

There were 6 confirmed dead, and 1000 injured... but after the towers collapsing the death toll will surely be huge

Just quit working and turned on the BBC news - horrible! I have no words for it - and my thought goes to the all the innocent citizens killed and hurt, and their families.

Anyway, according to BBC it's far to early to speculate in what crazy terrorist groups are responsible, or their nationality. An anonymous claim for some Middle east group had arrivied to an TV station in Abu Dahbi, but that's all for now.

People are running around...

I work for the airlines and it's just mayhem right now...

Yshania, I wouldn't say that it was neccessarily the biggest peacetime tragedy (Chernobyl, great plague etc.) but it ranks pretty high up.

Sorry Saruman - I did not mean to detract. I meant terrorist activity.

If it is a splinter terrorist group, or for that matter any terrorist group, it would still be an act of war.

No organisation/nation would commit such an atrocity and not expect retaliation.

Part of Pentagon seems to have collapsed also...

There's stuff going on in Chicago and another plane has crashed in Pennsylvania.

Apparently there is another hijacked plane heading towards Washington...

There are several planes still unaccounted for...my God!

Reported a tremendous number of lives have already been lost - number still not quantified....

We were not entirely sure whether it was the act of a nation at the time of posting, for all we knew it was an accident.

There are fighter jet planes flying the area...if they spot another jet (even a passenger jet) they will have to make the decision whether to shoot it down (passengers and all) or let it crash...

It is anticipated that there will be US citizens on board, one of the jets already crashed was US Air...

What a horrible decision....

There is 50 000 people that work in those towers I hope that they all managed to get out in time. At least they did not come down right away. This is hard to believe. My thoughts and prayers go out to those in time of need. I wounder if this is the same group that tried to blow up the towers a while back.

Too much coincidence. Three planes hijacked, many more planes yet unnaccounted for...

The 'targets' dictate to me that this was a deliberate act of terrorism.

I agree with you that now it appears to be an act of terrorsim, when i posted my comments it was not that clear.

I believe the plane that crashed outside of Philly mayhave been shot down.

The death toll will be far in excess of 1000. More likely close to 10,000.

Whether a nation or a terrorist group, there is probably going to be a bloodbath.

When those towers were hit it was the height of rush hour.

20,000 people would have been inside those buildings at that time...

It is an act of terrorism. There can be no doubt of that. They're saying that there are only a few terrorist groups in the world sophisticated enough to do this.
