So, no answers to mine :( .

If Nar was around, it would have been solved by one. I expect better from the rest of you :p .

@Rav - I'm touched by your faith in me :o :)

and the answer is before Christ ;)

my history teacher used it on a small test to check if we understood the dates in B.C. - I passed :D

It's quite a story. My class is, well, hard to teach ;) . My maths teacher discovered, that we hate learning, doing exercises and tests, but we're keen on solving riddles. Since then, all our teachers were doing all they could to ask questions so that they look as riddles. Some even actually searched some.
and if you can't get Ravs riddle then prepare to lose sanity!

Three friends check into a motel for the night and the clerk tells them the bill is $30, payable in advance. So, they each pay the clerk $10 and go to their room. A few minutes later, the clerk realizes he has made an error and overcharged the trio by $5. He asks the bellhop to return $5 to the 3 friends who had just checked in. The bellhop sees this as an opportunity to make $2 as he reasons that the three friends would have a tough time dividing $5 evenly among them; so he decides to tell them that the clerk made a mistake of only $3, giving a dollar back to each of the friends. He pockets the leftover $2 and goes home for the day! Now, each of the three friends gets a dollar back, thus they each paid $9 for the room which is a total of $27 for the night. We know the bellhop pocketed $2 and adding that to the $27, you get $29, not $30 which was originally spent. Where did the other dollar go?

hehe i love this one
There is no missing $ The total paid by the guests was $27, less the $2 taken by the bellhop = $25 received by the clerk. The calculation should work towards the $25 and not towards the original $30. So the trio paid $27 in total - $25 to the clerk and $2 to the bellhop.

My riddle is solved again. Yay.

Doesn't B.C. have a proper name (not just 'before Christ') like A.D. (Anno Domini - I think) ?

Anyway well done, Nar.

Who killed one-fourth of mankind?

*waits for Nar*. I have faith :p .

2)
Five hundred begins it, five hundred ends it,
Five in the middle is seen;
First of all figures, the first of all letters,
Take up their stations between.
Join all together, and then you will bring
Before you the name of an eminent king.
Hehe, I got the first part, but strangely not the third line. So I got DVD, which would seem acceptable with the "stations". But name of a eminent king? And then to think that the answer of the riddle is my own name...

Ahh. This wouldn't involve chopping up horses or anything like that, would it? I must say I'm morally opposed to such things ;) .

Okay, are horses always vegetarians or could they be persuaded to eat a dead horse if really hungry. Damn, I've been talking to goths too much lately, I'm picking up wierd personality things. *shudder* :p

It's REALLY old, and if Nar knows the answer, he cant tell it untill tomorrow!

You are dead. And when you die your soul goes to limbo (The place between hell and heaven). But you have forgotten your map, so you cant find the way to heaven. Luckily there are only 2 paths, one to Hell and one to Heaven, and two men are willing to tell you which way leads to heaven. There is only one catch. One of them always lies, and one of them always tell the truth. What question must you ask to know the way to heaven, and who will you ask?
