Hey...let's dig this beauty up in time for the World Cup... :)
So...which team du you all reckon will win?!?
Personally I believe that France may well do it again. Hot contenders would be Spain, Argentina, Brazil and England...

Wondering when this was gonna come up... Anyway, looks like Group F's gonna be the one everyone's watching... unless Maharlika's a football fan? So...ummmm...now that we're here....ummm....anyone support Argentina? :D :D :D
Seriously folks, it's a **** draw for England...we're just gonna have to hope that England and Nigeria pull something stylish on June 2nd... :) France vs senegal should be worth watching next Friday (?)... but I'll only be following England - that is, if we get past the second round...

LOL :D I think Swedish media are hyping England a bit because the coach is Swedish.

Personally, I haven't followed football very well, but I of course plan to watch once it starts. I wouldn't be surprised if Argentina won this time, I heard they have a very strong team now after having gone through a generation change.

I was sooo disappointed in the 1998 final between France and Brazil - it was one of the worst football game I've watched.

Well, all players in all 4 teams could of course get some acute disease that makes it impossible for them to play... :D

No, what I meant was of course that it would be an achivement for the 2 teams who go on from group F, whatever teams it will be, since group F is so hard.

@CE: true, and that coould count against them - an injured, tired team from a hard group would end up playing the big teams who walked through into the second round. ah well, what can you do, apart from saying...

@Robnark: Group F is meeting group A in the 2nd round, and even if group A is by no means an easy group, I think France would certainly have an easier time than all the group F teams.

Does anyone know the procedure of assigning teams to groups? Is it totally randomised, or was there any preset conditions like different pools to choose from?

i'm pretty sure it's random, most tournaments are, but i'll have to look into that

I believe there is some kind of rank pools, but i might be wrong.

I think the Portygal has a very good chance to reach the finals and i'm planning to bet on it. :D .

I found the draw procedure:

http://www.fifa.com/Service/MR_A/32477_E.html

There are several different pots and conditions based both on geographical conditions and Fifa rank, I'm surprised that two groups can be as different as group F and group H...

@Demis: I've heard Portugal is supposed to have a very good team, unfortunately I know virtually nothing about them.

I knew it had something to do with the ranks :) Thanks for the link CE

As for Portygal, they have a very good team, Figo,Xavier,Vitor Baia, Sergio Conceicao to name a few of its stars. Also Portygal does failry well in Euro Cups and also two of the local teams were in the top 16 teams in CL this year. Promising ...

Yeah. He wasn't being unreasonable though - getting sent home from the football world cup because of an arm injury is a bit harsh. Still, they're gonna lose all their matches anyway :D ...
