@ Fiona: I'm now trying to listen to some things of DAAU (Die Anarchistische AbendUnterhaltung), not exactly folk, more a mixture of all kinds of music (from classical to punk, once in one song) and often instrumental... but good.

There's always the problem where the language in some of the strips can be strong though. Do I post the comics or not...

@ Lestat. I eventually managed to locate one track on the Lais site (it should have been obvious but I missed it at first) I suspect it is a more commercial/poppy thing than some of the others, judging from the descriptions at the site.

I wonder if you realise how much fusion there is in folk these days? You said Richard Thompson was not folky, but Fairport convention were very early folk/rock fusion and along with Pentangle (folk/jazz with a bit of baroque) started a real change in the folk world. I do like the very traditional stuff but I love the new as well. It really is good music, and the people can really play. This festival alone I have listened to a french band who are combining bal musette with Klesmer in a fascinating way. Blues with appalachian fiddle and banjo music last night was an object lesson in two great musicians learning from different traditions. I am not surprised you can find punk in there too. Here we have a band called Salsa Celtica, just as you might expect (though I saw their saxophonist with another band this year so they may have split)

And you like lyrics, I think. Some of the best songs in the world are in this genre. They have lasted because they are good.

@ Rav, yea there are some comics I didn't post because they were fairly explicit, sometimes only in language, but sometimes also some graphical friskying about.

We were together for a year and a month. And I am normally self destructive, so I dont think anyone here wants to try and clean merc off the walls....

If folk is anything like the Belgian Indy rock scene, then that's completely normal. The crossbreeding, grouphopping, sideprojecting etc. is amazing. So a guy may perform with one group because his main group is not giving concerts at the moment but e.g. writing songs and since he might not be amongst the creative ones he might be playing around.
Hell, when I was in England I saw the violist of New Model Army (then a indy folkrock group of some limited renown) busking in the street.
