I was getting pummeled by a dread zombie and I figured out a way to lead him back to a trap in the Ayelid ruin I was plundering. The trap was the kind where the entire floor rises quickly and mashes anything that's on the section against the ceiling. I thought I could simply dash across a corner of it and the slow zombie would follow and be mashed flat - wrong. The zombie rode the floor up, got mashed, and rode the floor down - undamaged! :speech: Needless to say I was surprised. That's when I buckled down and started some serious melee mixed with liberal potion quaffing. They are a tough dude to encounter when you're not prepared.
You have got to be kidding. It survived a Ram? I don't think I've ever seen anything survive a Ram. Of course, I've only pulled that stunt a half-dozen times or so, so I haven't actually experimented exhaustively. I wonder if there are other things that can survive those traps. :(

It may have been a headless zombie and not a dread zombie, but it definitely survived...twice! After that I gave up and commenced the melee.

Hmm what if you lure them onto the floor that quickly lowers and sending the unfortunate down on spikes?

Forget the dread zombies . . . (SPOILER)

I was around level 21 or so and was going to Miscarcand to get the Great Welkynd Stone. I had not yet run into any DZ's and was dreading it, quite frankly, after reading this thread. Sure enough, I found two DZ's and a Headless wandering in one of the first chambers I came across. I hit them with arrows to make them give chase and to my surprise found that my Shortsword of Flames made REAL quick work of the DZ's! I could also hit them about 10 - 12 times with Umbra to take them down, but the shortsword worked better because you could hit them more quickly, and use the shield.
I was feeling pretty proud of myself by the time I got to the Great Welkynd Stone and snatched it - then I had to fight the undead King of Miscarcand. Now THAT was a fight! He and his two Zombie Guardians now have my official vote as the toughest monsters in the game. I must have died 20 times before I vanquished all three of them!

lovedeath wrote:So I ran into my first dread zombie while exploring Memorial Cave. I figured he'd be no worse than a headless or standard zombie. Me, I'm a weak thief/assasin build. So I attack...

I can't damage him fast enough to kill him by myself, so I run with the zombie on my tail. I run to the nearest road hoping a passing Legion watchman will be there. I'm in luck and there are 2 watchmen passing. So we all fight the zombie.....and they both die. Great. So I start running again. Pass some deer, and the zombie decides to kill them too! I'm shocked at the brutality, but quickly recover, collect the free venison, and run some more. My idea is to get to the nearest city, where there should be multiple guards at the gate and we all can kill this blasted zombie. En route, the zombie kills 2 bandits, a wolf, an imp, and another Legion watchman.

Finally I get to the city gate and there is only one guard and the stablehand woman. The three of us attack the zombie. Guard dies. Zombie wallops stablehand. She runs to the stable house with the zombie on her heels. She runs inside and locks the door behind her and the zombie hangs out on the porch. I give him a good swing from my sword then flee like a pansy into the city. Quickly I realize he won't follow me inside so I head back out. The stablehand took advantage of the zombies distraction and runs out of the house, and takes off at top speed. I run the same way and the zombie's on my tail again.

One nasty little zombie following me all over the land leaving everything dead in our wake. This can't continue! Either way, this seemed awfully funny to me. Any ideas of how to end this massacre?

I was so glad to read this message lol, I encountered 3 dread zombies last night i was happilly flaming them with fire spells for about 20mins then they worked out how to climb the steps to where I was I then realised I was in trouble I was doing one of the quests for the mages guild so i figured if I leg it out of there with the combined help of the other 2 mages we would be able to sort them out. I was wrong, they both died and I had to start running again.....(sounding familiar right?), thankfully I have a turn undead upto lvl 25 spell which thankfully gave me enough space between me and them to get far enough away to quick travel, I then came on here to have a read see what I was doing wrong...apparently nothing....so I go to my house I get my elvish sword with +15 shock dmg out and decide to go back and do the job properly, by the time I got back there an oblivion gate had spawned right next to it, as im level 16 a Dremora was waiting for me aaand yes you guessed it a dread zombie so I try to sort the dremora out have to run into the lake, while im standing there deciding what my next move is, the dread zombie kills it. I then emerge from the lake and thankfully killed the dread zombie (thank you for hard hitting swords), just thought id share my story (although the original posters was waaay funnier)

:D

I don't understand why so many people have a problem with Dread Zombie's. I just did the Skingrad recommendation where you have to go to a cave and wipe out about 10 DZ's or so. I was a level 6 at the time and used no magical weapons or poison and only weak spells and I wiped them all out without dieing once. Maybe the made it easier because it was a quest but I don't know.

At level 6 the undead in Bleak Flats Cave are Deranged Zombies, not Dread Zombies.

O well never mind then. Although I just used my very old file with a character level of 47 and found Dread Zombies. They were slightly hard but I guess with such a high level then they didn't turn out to be as hard for me as apparently for a lot of people on this forum.

I had the same problem with a dread zombie, i was on the ultimate heist and i come across a few of these. It took most of my enchanted weapons to kill them.

Um, I've found that one of the most helpful things when dealing with tough opponents is sheer STRENGTH - and if you don't have much yourself, give yourself a bit of fake strength by making Fortify Strength potions. Of course, it helps if you are good at Alchemy...
