Yes, I did use the vents and the ladders, but even so, you have to crouch the distance to the nearby ladders after you drop from the vents.
As the levels descend, the lighting gets a lot brighter and then you have a greater chance of geting caught.
Don't worry, now I'm an expert at the traffik quest, but I still carry the scars as my first timer Toreador.
Jhereg is right, you have to wait untill later in the game untill you can fortify stealth and dexterity, so I postponed the quest.
Guess how long I waited to complete the traffik quest?
Yep, untill I was already in chinatown.
But then again, It was my first time playing and I was a little unprepared, a lot more hard-headed, and very ruthless.
I thought making a massacre was the best choice.
The following games I played with a lot more caution and strategy, but as a first time player, Traffik was one of my most tougher quests. :mischief:

Had the exchange happen one time. As soon as i got off lvl 5 (or was it 4?..) there were some shooting and there was nobody on lvl 1-3. it only happened one time though and thats like 1 out of 25 times

Everytime I've done this the exchange goes off.
It doesn't start until after you pick up the case you were sent for. If you remain hidden until the exchange is made the trade goes bad and gun fire errupts between the two groups. At that point you can unstealth and causually walk out, you won't be a target.
Given that you need 0 blood to get out of the building, you only need 3-4 uses of Obsfuscate to make it down there running (not crouched) the whole way ignoring the grates.
A note on the stealth level required. I've done this with my Tremere after the Giovanni Mansion quest with an effective -2 stealth feat (though I doubt you go under 0) -2dex from my armor and 0 in stealth (first game ever and never got the stealth skill book.)
There's no way a 7-9 stealth is needed excpet perhaps in one area where you have to round a guard at the top of a ramp and he never moves, in which case I Tranced and ran around, I tried to feed a couple times but he always woke back up and started shooting me after.

You know, it never even occurred to me to try that. Just wait.

the XP is for not being spotted on the way down - 100% doesn't matter - it is the (!) that fails you. once you have swiped the case, you have the XP and can have a bloodbath.
thanks for the info on the exchange going pear-shaped - I will wait and watch next time I do the mission.
my tremere had stealth 6 I think, but I did trance one or two people crossing well-lit areas. if the enemies have their backs to you, 100% doesn't trigger a spot BTW.

The colors have nothing to do with being spotted. Green means that you won't be spotted even by somebody looking right at you. Yellow means that you
might be spotted if somebody looks your way, and red means that you
will be spotted by anybody who looks your way. If they're facing away from you, you can crouch two feet behind them making chicken gestures and you're perfectly safe - unless they turn around.

i saw the exchange
on my gangrel had like 2-3animalism (cant remember all my old guy stats) and some protean so i just clawed my way down and occasionally shot some ppl, every new floor id stealth a bit then usually waste em all then when i got down to the last level i sneaked ab it and i killed ppl without alerting others (dunno how i just wasted em ASAP) and i saw it going on but i got bored so i spectral wolf'd one of the main guys then got an uzi wasted all my ammo and just clawed and hacked like hell... 2nd time im playing malk a) because of the hilarious dialogue (and argueing with a stop sign, who can say no to that!) and b) they are stealthy and brute force doesnt always win and this is half off-topic but at the beginning Jack says something like
"yeah you may be immortal and superhuman, but it doesnt mean you should go juggling dumpsters or beating the 3:15 from Santa Monica (to some place) okay kid, so try to hide your powers a bit" so there should be more severe punishment if you get bored and waste everyone in downtown... lol
i never played redemption but it sure did look fun, and i only played this one coz i luv'd SW:KotR2 coz that was fun and difficult at times (the jedi boss on that lush green planet godmode on anyone? i found a glitch and i planted 150, yes 100 and f'ing 50 mines in the same spot then i moved a bit and he ran at me then lagfest then he only took half health when mines are basically 1hit kill on norm players... lucky i had some spare mines and ammo) but yeah back to topic i saw it happen

You're free to kill away in the Traffik mission. Just don't get spotted or have that "!" mark on your stealth meter.
As a Tremere, I used the ladders but also Trance and Suicide to kill my way down to the exchange. I wasn't spotted and I got the bonus.

I can now do this mission fairly easily BUT there are times when you need a bit of luck with the direction people are looking in after you drop down.
I usually have about sneak 7 and get the case unnoticed for the extra XP.
I'm pleased to hear that I may be able to feed on the way past - I have gone with 'safety first' on the sneak.
I waited for an exchange after taking the case - and nothing happened - I might not have hung around long enough, but it seemed a while ot me. how long before it goes pear-shaped?
the way back up is good practice - you can test ideas out as there are so many enemies in manageable groups - my last time through, I was into guns and added celerity to that - so that I could shoot the bad guys, move and reload without taking on lead ballast. it is fun watching shots coming at you and missing - just like in the Matrix film.
I am a real fan of the Killmatic and the McKlusky - for normal use, but when you get ranged 9 or so - even the Steyr gets good.
Traffik is a fun mission - some tension, then lots of creative mayhem. I usually feed on a few bad guys and there are so many that sometimes I had 3 disciplines going at the same time - celerity, blood-buff and presence - a really good melee combination with dodge 4, brawl 5, melee 5 and an axe.
you hit fast and hard and the others often stand and stare. it is not so good in hallowbrook, but at glaze or mings it also works well.

I just beat this mission today and got the stealth bonus, with a Gangrel and only a level 2 in stealth, so high stealth is by no means required here. You just have to be careful, and Blood Buff if you don't think can make it through an area, really not that bad. The hardest part was going back up for me, because I had low blood, so I couldn't go crazy with my disciplines, but Fortitude there really helps.

level stealth 2 + Buff (stats 5) = 7
having dex 3 + stealth 4 = 7 and saves blood
dex is useful for picking locks, so I tend to raise it to 3-4 and swap armour around if I've lowered it too much.
with the body armour you get -2 dex, but as you are sneaking, you might as well have heavy clothing (level 2) with no dex penalty and sneak easier.
sneak 10 is awesome - you crouch next to somebody and they don't see you even under good lighting. not as good as top obfuscate, but not blood-dependent.
