Hmmmm the titanic, fascinating time, it brings to mind a what if in mind, what if the titanic had never sank, well likely another ship would have sunk, and if that one wasn't full of rich people nobody would care, but eventually another rich boat would sink and new regulations would have been put into place.

Incidently does anyone know the story about a similar incident that happened with poor people on a boat, Irish Scottish, anyway they were forced to draw straws as to who would die to be eaten, not a very pleasant story, but for some reason it connects in my mind with the Titanic.

Hrm...Could you state a name of that Irish Ship? I might know what you are talking about. But all the stories seem to have blended in my mind.

But your statement about rich vs poor, that is a BIG statement, and it might be true, but Im not all that sure. There have been many documented shipwrecks and stories told that consist of low or middle class citizens. The Titanic wasnt documented simply because of the rich. Maybe it helped boost the media and the attention of it, but it would not have been ignored. Any ship as revolutionary as that one sinking on its maiden voyage would have made all sorts of headlines, and did.

Yeah, the thread has gone off track, but Im keeping an eye on everything, and Ill be happy to respond to anything. Me, being loose and a pacifist, I dont mind.

2.) The numbers on the hull, spelling the words NO POPE!!!

And how's this for conspiracy theory: There's a book out there, can't remember the title, claiming to prove that the Titanic was actually switched with its sister ship, the Olympic, just prior to launch; and it was really the Olympic that sank.

On a serious note, I went to Boston to see the artifact exhibit a few years back. Absolutely beyond words to describe. They even had a big piece of the hull. I must have stood in front of that for about half an hour at least, just staring at it. Eerie, and awesome in the true sense of the word.

LOL! Yeah right...the Olympic wasnt that big anyway. Maybe 2/3 the size of the Titanic. And go figure, the Olympic would eventually get in an accident too, it was pulling out of harbor and collided with another ship. She didnt sink, but she suffered damage.

The Titanic sunk, the Britannic sunk, the Olympic crashed. Good fleet

Go figure. Its something Im terribly interested in, in a very close location, and Ive never seen it. Some one HAS to tell me to get off my arse sometime soon. But, hey, if you want to come up to Boston again, that would be great. Ill be here for at least another 3 years.

@dM Oh boy...here we go. I knew that damnable movie would forever be associated hand in hand with the Titanic. At many points it is historically accurate, but of course, the story itself is a HUGE segueway from the real stories.

Walter Lord also wrote a sequel "The Night Lives On" which dealt with the inquests and the fate of the survivors etc. which is also a good read.

The film "A Night To Remember" follows the book closely, and is very good (it certainly hasn't got Leo di Crappio in it!).

The best quote I heard about Leo's "Titanic" - "if the water had been as shallow as the plot, everyone could have waded to safety"
