I find it interesting that we're having so much trouble over Pre-Algebra. Most of us are either out of school or way above pre-algebra. Almost pathetic.

Dammit, man. This aint a pre-algebra problem. Pre-algebra problems are:
2x+3=17

Not this monstrocity. I cant even tell you what class of math it falls into. Trick problems or problem solving using not enough info. Geez. If I get an A- in Calculus, I would know what things are like in the mathematical field, and Id know my algebra.

I agree with you, this shouldn't be a pre-algebra problem. I hate problems where you have to think instead of just doing math. Lucky for me we haven't started any thinking questions in Pre-Calculus yet.

I agree that it's not exactly a math problem. It's rather a logical problem, but not the type that you can easily solve by writing down a few rules and proving that certain numbers must match certain letters. As Weasel pointed out there are only 8 out of 10 numbers used, which could lead to the problem that there is more than one possible solution ...

I wasn't in school for the last 14 years, but I can't remember such problems from german algebra books. They're often to be found in newspapers here, next to the crossword puzzle.

Sorry, folks. I asked Mistress Tulk about the answer, and she told me to go figure it out in my free time, or I'll never be a teacher.

Well thats annoying, isnt it. Now this problem will be bothering me until I either figure it out or until the furthest reaches of time.
