@Dottie: I am only familiar with some of them, I am at least happy you didn't mention the Swedish cartoonist I hate the most.

Some of the ones you like I find...acceptable

Howcome everybody knows all these cartoonists by their name?
I only know the cartoon, why do you all know them?

Monika Hellström is my object of hate, or rather her cartoons. I have nothing against her personally of course...she used to hate me though, but that's another story.
I can't remember exactly who is who, I recognise many names from the magazine Galago, which I don't particularly like, but some of the stuff is OK. Another acceptable cartoonist in Joakim Pirinen, who was an old friend of mine long ago. He was very talented. (And their studio had great parties

)

@CE:
Monika Hellström is just boring imo, but I havnt read enough of her to develop any hate.
Yes, Pirinen is good

, although I didnt particularly enjoy his latest book.
And I think alomst all of them have been published in Galago.
One I thought you would hate was Åsa Grenvall, have you read anything of her stuff?
@Robhin: Many cartoonists doesnt name their cartoons or doesnt provide any continuity in characters etc, so there is nothing else to go on than the name.

Alright now I love comics, freakin LOVE THEM. I am an avid comic book collector (yeah geek shove off) and I love the daily comics. Calvin and Hobbes is a staple to any good reader in any terms. Great comics come and go, peanuts being a great one now passed on. Farside is awsome too, dont forget Bizarro and other such one frame comics. Webcomics too are great such greats like
http://www.penny-arcade.com and
http://www.angsttechnology.com are fun reads day and day out. But for printed comics my current now favorite without a doubt is
GET FUZZY
http://comics.com/comics/getfuzzy/index.html
Check it out, awsome funny stuff.

I seldom like cartoons in the strip form you see in newspapers, they mostly start to repeat themselves quite quickly. The cartoons I like are often stories, and like Dottie says, there is no consistency in main people or even a name of the cartoon.
@Dottie: I haven't read Åsa Grenvall AFAIK, but isn't she one the the "self-therapy" cartoonists that draw these modern social realism cartoons about how horrible her upbringing was? I must admit I am tired of the "spotty teenager being bullied then grow up to live nightlife at clubs and have lots of bad sex and uphappy relationships"-genre.

Yes, that describe her stuff rather well... But I like it.
All of the cartoonist I mentioned arent that way though.
@Thug: I've read some fuzzy, and some of it is okey imo... but far from excellent.

Get Fuzzy is great! The interaction between the dog and Cat is genious. My personal favorite is the one where the cat is going on about being "The Drape Master".

Don't read much cartoons anymore but I simply love Clavin and Hobbes and also the Dilbert series. That Catberg and Dogbert just cracks me up

I can see why you like it...and I hate it.
Here is a link to a cartoon by Bill Sienkiewicz, it is not at all as good as Stray Toasters, but you get an idea of his style:

It seems very wierd, makes me think of John Andersson. He also draws very strange stuff, but in a different style and without the violence.

I was just wondering if anybody outside of The Netherland has ever heard of Fokke and Sukke?
They are REALLY funny.
See an example
here.
The text is Dutch, but I'd like to know if they are internationally known or not, thanx.
If I get the chance I'll try to translate and modify one later.

My top choices would be both far Side and Footrot Flats. The second one is probably completely unknown outside New Zealand, and unfortuantely the writer Murray Ball is now retired. A true Kiwi classic!

Dilbert would be my first choice. Then Doonsberry and Calvin and Hobbes.
For manga, Utena. I am currently reading Planet Ladder, which I am enjoying.
For anime, either Vampire Hunter D or Ghost in the Shell.

I think my favorites are, in descending order:
Krazy Kat
Bloom County
Far Side
I also like the fact that Breathed, Bloom County's creator, used to occasionally "quote" the style of Herriman's Krazy Kat, as a deliberate act of hommage to one of the all-time greats.
Anyone else ever read any of the weird, wonderful Krazy Kat strips? They date from roughly 1920-1940, and have been issued in various anthologies over the years.
Here's a few of the strips:

Here's an astonishly wordy analysis (yes, far behind what I would attempt) of Krazy Kat, though it links to some very good strips:

Thanks fable. An interesting tidbit to be learned every day. I'll have to review your links and see what I can dig up of old Bloom County stuff.
