now, don't let us overlook dual weilding, such as the celestial fury+ the equalizer, plus greater whirlwind attack (only availiable if you have ToB instaled) will give you 20 attacks per round.

Go the big sword... Two handed sword for maximum bigness and minimum hide behind a sheildness
Katanas annoy me becouse of recent bastardisation / flooding of all this Martial arts jive in seemingly every movie and book that has come out since the matrix
Long swords are too girly and elvish
If your not a theif or a halfling, you have no good reason to touch a short sword
If your not a paladin who likes hiding behind sheilds, no need for bastard swords
So ill finish by saying... Minsc, Sarevok, Keldorn....

Talking from an rp perspective....................................
In quality I dont think any swords even get on the board for dmg per round, in there most potent magic forms
So If I was going to powrgame id duel weild crom and flail, but there not swords and I never powergame (well there was that one time... waaaay back)

ah, so we meet again (i'm gonna start considering Gnomethingy my arch enemy, doomed to have me argue with whatever he says) How about daystar and flame toung, they are the best against undead the way swords go

Dual wield CF with anything, the stun feature rocks.

dude, right on, CF+ what ever you want (daystar of equalizer in my case, i alternate almost daily) will destroy all that oposes the wielder (though that chance of 20 elec. damage helps) but I could never get the stun feature to work (mabye because I just stunned everybody with comet before hand hehehehe)

I know there not swords... that illistrates my point
I LIKE sword, I LIKE two handed sword, I dont care about what does .76 more dmg per round becouse when you start doing that
You start posting blunt weapon combinations in a thread about swords

mmmmmm
Well I went with the Katana. this is my second time through and the first time using CF did not even know about it the first time around. It is a fun sword to play with. Maybe a little to powerful so early in the game but I like it. But there is so many powerful weapons in this game it would be hard to make a decision. It gets kind of sad when you go and sell anything that is a +2 weapon. If you had that in the first game you would be a very happy person.

I also think short swords are under-rated. Piercing weapons have a greater advantage than slashing vs. plate mail. And I'm into roleplaying this halfling f/t dual-wielding kundane and s.swd of backstabbing (both have a spd factor of zero), and voila--4 att./round... and when mated with a strength girdle, the meager d6 damage is not so important. And its fun being the underdog against big bad guys with monster weapons... but for all those beasts who require greater than +3 weapons to hit... well jeez, so much for 4 att./round.

The speed factor of the weapon has nothing to do with getting 4 attacks per round. The Kundane just happens to give an extra attack per round just like belm.

Thanks Bruce, my error. Makes sense. The extra attack is not in the description I believe, so I speculated...

Short swords is alright, respectable if your a halfling or a theif
I still say two handed is better : P

Personnally I prefer Bastard Swords. In BG2 I used Foebane to great effect and in the PnP Bastard Swords are d10 and can be used one handed with a proficiency feat. They are too fiting for paladins (equal to the longsword to me.)
