Actually, my comments were put lightly, but meant to be taken seriously. ;) The criminal underworld has a very strong lobby through many, many sources, and its agenda obviously includes keeping things like drugs and prostitution illegal. If they were legalized and controlled--even taxed, as they do in the Netherlands--the underworld would lose a fortune, and the government would gain one which could be plowed back into whatever is the appropriate political party buzzword of the day.
