Anyone sees Vanilla Sky yet ? I planned to see it but I doubt it's a good entertainment.

My math teacher just saw The Time Machine, and he said it was pretty good, despite it's horrible reviews. Then again, he's a little...escentric.

Haven't seen Black Hawk Down yet. Is it good?

I would suggest you avoid it, it isn't particularly good and it suffers from....well....Tom Cruise Also the ending is completely crap. It is also too long

@Ysh I agree, The Mummy Returns was laughable, even worse than the original, although the Arab (?) guy had a bigger part, which was an improvement And the bluescreen effects were just awful!! Some of the worst I've seen!! Plus it added an annoying child, which is never a good thing...

@KidD230587249850 I agree with Sleep, Vanilla Sky isn't particularly good. It touches on a lot of themes but doesn't really deal with any of them. Plus it has a rather ridiculous plot twist near the end. None of the characters are likeable, except Jason Lee - I would have been hoping that Cruise and Cruz didn't get together, if I could bring myself to care that much.

Are you saying Scary Movie 2 is better than the original (which IMO was awful...) ?

Black Hawk Down

(Bear in mind this was written for an English student newspaper )

What to expect from an American war film – of which the release date was brought forward, post-September 11th, to take advantage of war fervour across the pond? Patriotic, sentimental propaganda, right?

Wrong – in this case at least. In October 1992, in war-torn Somalia, American forces were sent into the capital, Mogadishu, to capture two of the top lieutenants of warlord Mohammed Farrah Aidid. When one of their Black Hawk helicopters is shot down, it becomes a disastrous 15-hour battle in which 19 Americans and hundreds of Somalians lost their lives. This is not a story of American triumph. It is about a failure of intelligence which leaves troops struggling for survival in hostile territory while the commanding officer back in camp desperately tries to get them out.

What we have here (after the first half an hour) is a 90-minute running battle. It is brutal and unrelenting. Nationalism and machismo are thankfully kept to a minimum in the name of gritty realism. Headed by the curiously uncharismatic Josh Hartnett, the cast is otherwise good, though why it was necessary to cast Brits as American soldiers is anyone’s guess. Particularly if, like Ewan McGregor, they don’t seem quite able to hold the accent.

The cinematography is up to Ridley Scott’s usual beautifully crafted high standard; you’ll believe you’re there, although you’ll wish you weren’t. The film misfires slightly in the inclusion of two slightly comedic soldiers who get left behind. Please, Ridley, if you’re trying to do incessant battle, don’t cop out and throw in some comic relief. With that exception, “Black Hawk Down” doesn’t pull any punches, so make sure you come prepared.

@GF: I don't know if I would call AI dumb, it was just bad, boring and diassapoining, but not bad.
Rat Race was hilarious. (Especialy the Barbie museum )
If don't say a word is what I think is, I didn't want to see it becaue I find Micheal Douglas very annoying.

@Tamerlane: I wanted to see Bandits, but it wasn't showing by the time I had time for it.

@Fable: I tend to dislike any foreign language movies. This was no exeption. I think the reason this and Crouching tiger, Hidden Dragon did so well was because people don't expect much from foreign films, and these were pretty good.

@Georgi: I thought Ali was a terrible movie. Altthough thats probably because I think Will Smith looks nothing like Ali, and Jon Voight is one of the most annoying actors alive.

@Ned: I think Waking Ned is a great movie. It is just so simple- which is something extriemely rare in modern movies.

@Sleepy: I still havn't seen TMWWT. I hope to in the next couple of weeks.

@Kid01: Scary Movie 2 is one of the only movies in which I actualy fely my IQ drop just by seeing it. It is IMO one of the worst movies ever made. (along with DnD and Final Fantasy)
I want to see Vanilla Sky for two reasons:
1. It has Jason Lee (I'm a Kevin Smith fan )
2. Steven Spielberg makes a cameo in it (Check out oscar nominations- you'll understand)

@Georgi: The 'Arab' guy is Oded Fehr- an Israeli born in Tel Aviv, who met Stephen Sommers(the director) while working for EL AL (Israeli national carrier- and safest in the world)in Paris.

Monsters Inc. Damn good, i was rolling on the floor laughing at one point.

Now for my recommendation.

The Usual Suspects.
Director: Bryan Singer (X men, X2)
Starring: Kevin Spacy, (Best supporting actor oscar) Gabriel Byrn(SP), Stephen Baldwin(brother of), Benicio Del-Torro, Kevin Pollack, Chazz Palminteri and Pete Postlethwaite.

This has what is possibly the greatest movie ending ever. To reveal any part of the ending would ruin the movie. Go get it. Now.
The movie itself is good, with some great dialauge (it also won best screenplay oscar) and action.
I never figured out why spacy won for best supporting actor, he was the main actor! (and great at it)

At some time in the past I caught a film on TV about several Taxidrivers around the world.... - it was REALLY funny, even if sometimes a little weird.

I think it was called "Night on earth" but I'm not sure, and I don't know which director made it.

Does anybody here know this film ?

It wasn't exactly that impressive, it is vaguely entertaining, but several things let it down....
1) It's too long
2) The ending twist....more liek a vague curve
3) It is one of the only bad films Billy Bob Thornton has been in and it is more proof of Hollywood's corrupting influence
4) It is more proof that the big studios just can't make anymore films like The Philidelphia Story

Jon Voight is one of the most annoying actors alive.

LOL Well i thought Scary Movie had some funny points, basically the murderers confusion at the antics of their victims. Otherwise the first one is crap, so i imagine the second is also

Anyone seen The Last Castle? Is it any good? It looks pretty good...

@Morlock I thought Will Smith was actually very convincing as Ali; it wasn't that important that he didn't look exactly like him. And Jon Voight was practically unrecognisable. (He has made some bad movies, but he's not all that bad, IMO...)

One of the things I observed about Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was that if it had been made in English, the script would have seemed really corny. Maybe it's just the translation, but even so... I was unimpressed by the special effects as well, like the "flying" across the rooftops, I thought it looked very fake.

Taxi is quite a cool French movie - about a taxi driver (with a supercharged taxi) who gets conned into helping a police detective (from what I recall, it's been a while since I saw it). It's amusing, and there are some cool car sequences

Jason Lee is good in Vanilla Sky, as ever, but I wouldn't say he was worth seeing the movie for.
