Surely for the price of a CRPG, you could buy 5 good books! (Or more in a secondhand bookshop!)
Ummm... I agree with VDali

I play rpg's to relieve stress. I tend to have trouble saying 'no' regarding my time and giving of said time sometimes... Locking myself in a room not only gives much needed alone time, but playing a game activates my mind, makes me laugh, just is an all around good stress reliever.
I also like to imagine the worlds/people/situations in books... Games are a way to see what they are like (or worlds very similar)if only from the lopsided view of a computer screen.

Sometimes it's just necessary to leave this world for a better place - even if it's just a fantasy....
And of course it's a socially accepted way to release agressions...
No worries,

I play so that I can come to bed three hours after my wife has fallen asleep. I shake her awake and say, "Honey! Guess what? I just killed Kangaxx the Demi-Lich after three tries! Wanna hear how?"

That is so funny
I do this to my cat, he seems pretty non plussed
Why do i play RPG's? I am not sure really, i play a lot of games, so i guess RPG's are just another genre that i play, i do like the character building elements, it creates an interesting angle of self development. Also the stories of teh BG saga are very good (except TOB

Because in RPG you can embody the statement some people say when they watch a movie/read a book:
"If it was me on that situation I would..."

I play em because it's one way my partner and I get to do something together. It's like tennis, but with more big off swords and stuff.

My answer basicly same as Ysh. In addition, there's some phylosophical point of view you can learn form the story - Take BG for example. Top of that I can kick some villain ass real hard!

They are a great way to kill time. When you just want to finish this one little part without realizing it took you five and a half to do it.

Actually KidD, I am only a part time resident of SYM. It is a second job within my primary occupation and requires niblets and nuggets of my time Monday through friday 8am-6pm. I post rarely over the weekend.
My why RPG response was purely sarcastic. I play them because I've had an interest in fantasy and science fiction since I was about four years old watching Star Trek with my pop. He started dishing off Asimov and Tolkien on me when I was nine. I'd read the words and try to comprehend but most often it wound up being 50 quiestions with my pop and he was always happy to fill me in on what I was reading.
D&D followed a couple of years later, followed by dragonlance, CRPG's (ah, the 80's, wizardy, pool of radiance, wizards crown), blah blah blah blah blah. Basically, it's something I've always been addicted to. There is no why. I just like it.

Neddy, seems like U got same history as I do. Especially that Star Trek & ADND thingy

I still remember watching Captain Kirk & Spock - try to immitate the vulcan secret hand shake. Not to mention the long hard gaming time while playing EoB 1
PS : FYI just joking on my previous post; take it easy, mate
