Like Sailor Saturn already pointed out, Internet connection sharing was implemented to Win98SE, and so also to WinME. At least with ME it works fine, I had internet connection sharing running on WinME (and computer running Win2000 was using that share). It worked just OK, only problem was when using VPN connection.
But lately I've installed WinXP to both computers and I warmly recommend that to all of you who have pretty new hardware and enough memory (at least 256MB). Because, besides connection sharing, IMO WinXP is the 1st Windows that really works, with games and other stuff.

@SS, I have win98se almost always on a different partition as a secondary OS. My roomate and i have a home network and i noticed that is much harder to connect two PCs with different MS OS than when both have win98 or win2k.
I noticed that problems connecting between Win2k and 98/Me -machines can be fixed by making a profile with administrator privilidges on Win2k machine, with the same user name and password as in Win98/ME. Hope this helps.

@ Mr. Sleep, sorry that it has been so long but it has been hectic the last week or two. The answer I got is " So far as I know, a twisted pair cable is what you would need." I hope that this helps, if not I'll try to get a better answer if you could give me a few more specifics about what you want.
Well i am thinking of going with Demis' answer and get Win2k, but thankyou for your diligence, here is a free cookie
It is just a case now of finding the resources to get a copy, i guess i will have to shop around

Actually you can simply download the update file and then copy it into the CD - this will safe you lots of time than thinking about those matter above - unless copying the update files also considered piracy (Pardon my ignorance for this one if the matter I stated also consider to be piracy - Just want to give more simple solution, that's all)

It isn't piracy since you can only apply the update to an already purchased product, but then i have Norton; they don't do .Dat files, that is only McAfee. I think you can d/l them from Tucows and zdnet but i am not inclined to do that.

The updates for Norton Antivirus can also be downloaded for distribution purposes. And they're in self installing .exe format too. I have quite a few customers who download the updates every week and install them across their networks.
if you're after a very easy and cheap method of connecting different OS's for internet acces, try Vsocks Light from Paul Smith Computing Services
http://www.pscs.co.uk. It's a free and very simple proxy server.
