Well - my problem is that I can't create an account at all since the service is down.
Same here, now that I've got the game :\
As for the earlier mentioned problem: here they have solved the problem by now, by sticking a warning onto each box saying that even activating the Guest Card requires a credit card or game card.

Good for them, I think they could have gotten in some legal troubles about that one.

Are those problems solved by now? I want to buy the game, and play with prepaid cards. Will I be able to create an account?

You buy a new card and just use that card again as you did the first one.

Can't say I was too disappointed in Blizzard but...
When I bought the game it took awfully long to install. And when I finally got everything in order and launched the game it started downloading patches. The first patch was 590 MB in size. So I practically lost a day of gameplay because the patch took so long to download.
Later I ran into a problem: When I loaded my character it appeared invisible, only the shadow was seen. Suddenly the game froze and I was disconnected from the server. This problem wouldn't fix with that char so I had to delete him and start over again. Luckily I was only on level 7 and it didn't get too long to reach that level.

That "bug" has to do with 3rd party addons. If you had cleared you WDB and WTF folders and the restarted the game the issue would have been gone. Nothing to do with blizzard at all but one of the addons you are using is messing with the model skinner in WoW.
