Your life flashing before your eyes is most common when the accident involves ischemia (lack of oxygen) in the brain, like drowning and strangulation situations. There is a surprisingly large number of studies that have been done on this subject.
I've been close to death at several occations and have never seen any flashing of my life. But none of these situations involved ischemia, mostly just an experience of falling.

one time i saw a show one Discovery about the bright light people claim to see is a direct result of the lack of oxygen(real common with drowning). and there was all these folks saying it was a religious experience, but all the while it was proven to be a natural chemical released to the brain during the dying process.
is this close to what you know C?

cheese-you don't realize what you are asking of me! that was probably 2 years ago.
it could've been on TLC. that is about all i used to watch, the learning channel and the discovery channel.
CE-i thought it sounded similar.

I had one of those extremely serious asthmatic attacks as a kid of six which, for lack of mid-century medicine, would have been fatal. According to my folks, I was in bed, unconscious, for 12 hours, while the physician gave me an adrenalin injection per hour. I don't recall any life, mine or anybody else's, flashing before my life during that episode, or any other, similar asthmatic episode which has occured since.
Maybe it only flashes before your eyes if you're a Hollywood star and somebody is filming you at the time.

I read an interesting thing the other day, about how people with no brain function have "visions" (for lack of a better word), and science can't quite explain why. Hmmm...
Life after death? My answer is, who knows? I think we should focus on life here, making it the best it can be, making this a better place.

loner-the show i saw(which does not, in any way, make me an expert
) did not disprove the religion side or prove it. it just said that it happens becuase of a chemical(actually a holucinegen[sp]). but IMO, i don't think it is the same thing as "my life flashed before my eyes". i believe it explains the "the bright light at the end the a tunnel" side of it.
in my particular experiences, i thought hard on my life after the fact.

Maybe that's my problem
