Ok, this is what I've worked out so far.
Replacing !-1, "-2, #-3, $-4, %-5, ^-6, &-7, *-8, (-9, )-0 |-[new letter]. You get:
23,8,1,20 4,16,5,29 20,8,5 13,1,17 2,5,6,16,18 8,1,29,20,9,14,7,29 4,16
It doesn't seems to work since I get 29.
The numbers translate to: "What dpe_ the maq befpr ha_ting_ dp". This doesn't make any sense.
Edit - now if you change 'p' to 'o', '_' to 's', you get "What does the maq befor hastings do", it still doesn't make sense.

Xandax, it's frustrating to have cracked the system of the code but not being able to read it out because of my keyboard.
Do you also have another keyboard than Craig?
Or is it your cognitive functioning that is problematic?

Any idea on what it meant to be?
