For the most recent RPG that is not on the list that I thought was good, I'd go for Divine Divinity. If you're willing to go a bit old-schooler than that both Ultima Underworld games are fun. I'd be tempted to point out the Realms of Arkania trilogy, but that might be too old and Drakensang uses modified elements for the same general setting.

Have you tried Temple of Elemental Evil?

Worth a check out if you enjoyed most of the games in that list

Yeah I played ToEE a few years ago, but forgot to add it to the list Its a good game, might see if I can find the discs for it one of these days - I moved a year ago and haven't located all my games yet ... they were put in a box in a cupboard somewhere I think

You could always try the Wizardry series. I think it ended on Wizardry 8 but I don't know if the games are connected storywise. It's kinda like Might&Magic only leaning more to the RPG side.

It did end with Wizardry 8, and the games fall into two series. Through Wizardry V, it employed wireframe graphics. VI and VII offered better graphics, and VIII added existence in realtime.

There's been talk over the last couple of years of a Wizardry IX, but my inside contact (a very fine lady, with a great sense of humor, and an excellent way with words) says nothing has come of this.

I'd much rather prefer that a Wizardry 9 never gets made. Both Ultima 9 and especially Might and Magic 9 were poor endings to long lasting series. Although for Ultima, the decline happened at Ultima 8 and Ultima 9 finished the kamikaze run.

I highly recommend you check out Lufia 1 and Lufia 2. They are great rpgs for super nintendo. The first one has a SERIOUSLY EPIC ancient cave dungeon where you have to complete all 99 lvls without dieing/saving/leaving. It's pretty hardcore. Could probably get an emulator of it if you don't have a Super Nintendo but I recommend a physical copy of the game.

Isn't is Lufia II that has that Dungeon? I'm playing that one now, and it has such a dungeon. Anyway, both are great games. The SNES has a lot of them.

King's Bounty: The Legend is very good. I enjoyed it very much and want to play it again from the beginning with a different class in a harder difficulty level. Thumbs up!

edit: Not exactly what I'd call an RPG... but I still recommend it... to everyone!

There are workarounds for XP with all three that I've used without any problems. Vista is more difficult, but I've seen people claim to have played them successfully. I suspect googling each game with the appropriate operating system will help.

They definitly work. Played all of them on XP. The workarounds aren't even that difficult. (Mostly, just an onofficial patch.)

How is Dungeon Lords? I bought the game a few years back but never got around to playing it.

Well, it has an intrigueing class system that makes me return to it time and again. The dungeons are fairly enjoyable as well, allthough some tend to get a bit long.
The biggest disadvantage is, IMO, that you have to walk/run around a lot.
Generally, it certainly is worth it to spend some hours on to see if you like it. Be sure to use the latest patch/ Collecter's Edition.

Glad someone finally mentioned Dungeon Lords. I doubt I'll be flooded with support on this, but I think DL is about the best combination of RPG and action Ive ever played. Apart from some of the walking, the game rarely feels like a grind, and the dungeons are almost works of art.

Yes, there are flaws, but the game is just lots of fun.

Anachronox is a game the I feel is well worth a look . I found it secondhand for £1 and really enjoyed it! It regularly ranks quite high in PC Gamer and PC Zone's top 100, it's just a shame the planned sequel was never made.....

I'd also strongly recommend Mass Effect, don't believe the negative hype of the hardcore RPGers! Six different endings based on your actions throughout the game plus how you play the first game affects your standing in the sequel. And people say it's not an RPG simply because of the simplified combat....
