Heh this topic is cool. Bring back Vlad? Sounds like Dracula meets Jurassic Park.
If scientists did indeed clone Vlad, it would have to be under very secret and dark circumstances, or under the auspices of a very villainous government. It would be a phenomenally significant experiment, although the controls around it would be difficult to plan. Personally, I'm all for it!

No he wasn't a vamp, if you tried to put a pencil in him. You would have a pole run though you.

According to legend Vlad had a niece who was somewhat obsessed with her own beauty. So much so that she was constantly on the lookout for ways to preserve her youth and beauty. On one ill-fated day she met with an old crone who told her that, in order to stay young, she had to bathe every now and then in the blood of young virgins.
Ergo, during the night the girls were taken from their homes only to be delivered the next day, drained and with two holes in their neck....Thus vampires were born.
Yo, I don't know if this is true, it is just what I read somewhere a long time ago.
Regarding the cloning: it is typically human to look for notorious/infamous historical figures instead of virtuous ones like Gandhi or Lincoln. If Vlad-clone is anything like the original I really hope that his creators are the first ones to be impaled; would love to see the look in their eyes when they are sliding down to their death....

Vlad also drank the blood of his victims. So they say.

There are some suggestions that he also denounced God because his wife commited suicide and then he drank blood from the bleeding hands of a statue (as seen in the film) this seems less likely.
It would be so typically bad sci-fi movie if Vlad returned and butchered everyone, i'd go watch it!
@Weasel, yeah work has indeed piled up and my connection has been non-existent for about 3 weeks, but now i am on ISDN, spamming here i come

As the story goes he once decided to solve the problem of beggers and street trash by offering them free food and drinks. When the crowd had gathered in the Festhall he locked all doors and set the place on fire!
Do you think that the staking of vampires in order to kill them has something to do with Vlad impaling people?
@Sleep: if that film of yours shows certain scenes in explicit detail I'll certainly go see it;but if everything is edited out it'll just leave us with an horrible romance in a horror environment
BTW did anyone see that horror film where a group of teenagers went to a cabin in the woods; played a tape; awakened demons; got butchered? Good stuff!

It was made by Sam Raimi...starting Bruce Campbell before he was known.
Other one based on the same movie is Army of Darkness.

Funny as hell.

The vampire myth was around way before Vlad...it didn't originate with him (nor did staking as a method of destroying them...)
I've heard of that woman who used human blood as a skin cream

but I didn't know it was Vlad's niece...
BTW, in the 1800's when the pale look was in, women used to drink a drop or two of arsenic in their afternoon tea in order to achieve that effect...and nowadays people inject themselves with the botulism bacteria to eliminate wrinkles...weird the things people do...

They also poked their fingers to make their cheeks red.

Yes, pinching the cheeks...erm, the face

But wasn't that later, I think that was the practice in the early 1900's?...
