*Viv santers in, glittering in a leafy green nymph costume, and smiles at those in the bar. With an odd look towards the alien person and a wink at Sleep in a kilt she sits next to Ysh ready to take incriminating pictures.*

In soul music, you basically have this progression of the great male singers:

Sam Cooke for the early sixties (died under mysterious circumstances)
Otis Redding for the late sixties (died in plane crash)
Marvin Gaye for the seventies (shot by his father in mysterious incident)

besides them you basically have Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles (I guess unless you're blind you get killed if you're a soul singer) and then the modern R&B singers who I mostly don't like. Now gimme that sheesha!

Snaps his fingers: "The Zombies" start playing on a side stage.

Quite a party!

Vivien - nice outfit.

**Gwally slips out of the bar, then re-enters a few minutes later. Now, his hair is shaggy and unkempt, and is wearing only his old Superman pyjama-tops from when he was a kid and a pair of women’s silk panties. He viciously kicks the bar stools out from under several of the male patrons and moons the female patrons. Sauntering around the back of the bar, he shoves the bartender out of the way and grabs a bottle of vodka. He breaks off the neck of the bottle on the edge of the bar and proceeds to chug the contents, glass and all.**

Who is he?

Gruntboy!

**Again, Gwally slips out the back door of the bar, only to re-enter in the front door wearing a laboratory coat and an old-fashioned surgeon’s mirror on his head. [What are those things called, anyway??] He carries a flame-thrower filled with nitrous oxide, and everyone he flames falls down laughing uncontrollably. He gives Viv a great big kiss, removing several leaves from her costume at the same time. He pats Ysh on the bottom while secretly hiding a miniature video camera in her cleavage. He then demands a pint of home-brew ale from the bartender and drinks it smugly.**

Who is he?

Waverly!

(Just like at every party the Jaker finds himself discussing film and music instead of talking to the fine ladies.)

Well the original Blues Brothers movie was always a big favourite of mine, and you're right, it is basically soul music not Blues as the title might suggest. You have Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, and James Brown performing (JB is more a funk artist IMO and in the movie the song he does is pure gospel, but for arguments sake). You also have a lot of soul incidental music, including "Soothe Me" as performed by Sam & Dave (another of the great soul acts of the sixties.) In the blues brothers band you have a number of the big soul and r&b musicians of the sixties and seventies, including some of the big Motown house players (matt "guitar" murphy etc.), and then of course the legendary Steve Cropper from Booker T and the MGs, which was the Stax records house band. (he co-wrote sittin on the dock of the bay for crying out loud!)

John Belushi (RIP :( )was a pretty good blues/soul singer and the songs the band actually does: Sweet Home Chicago and Everybody Needs Somebody to Love are classic soul numbers (performed elsewhere better by others, but the versions in the movie aren't bad).

OK, what a party, here a vampire is talking intently to a guy dressed like KISS (which member?) about soul music! What a pedantic vampire!

Aretha: Matt, there's a couple of guys out here dressed like Hasidic diamond merchants.

Matt: What did they order?

Aretha: The fat one wants four fried chickens and a coke, and the thin one wants dry white toast -

Matt: Jake and Elwood! That's the Blues Brothers!

Aretha: The Blues Brothers! Shoot, they still owe you money!

I can't believe we're this far into the party and nobody has the costume of the naked guy. Well, you do now, like it or not. Anybody pouring Jameson in the house. I did happen to bring a ten pound bucket of squirrel nuts. Anybody remember those. No, really, it was a candy.
