A Half-Orc Cleric of Tempus xx / Barbarian 1. Just go for maximum strength.

A Rogue 10 / Barb 1 / Fighter xx gets all the rogue special feats, rage, fast movement, combat feats, better BAB & HP.

I wouldn't take the Brab, because Rage is not worth of anything. I would add that one level to rogue.

But seriously: rogue/sorceror is the way to go. Since you don't become visible when casting sells while invisible in 3e, you can throw jiucy spells from a distance, and you can also snek attack when necessary.

The fun part is not the rules error, but that I actually thought this was a viable build back then :P
There’s no reason why you can’t do both (role-play and optimize your characters). As I've mentioned elsewhere, I'm planning on using a dwarven paladin in my IWDII party. Now dwarves and paladins aren't exactly a frequent combo, but I constructed one that not only met my role-playing image but also was combat practical. I chose a gold dwarf instead of the basic shield dwarf (since shield dwarves get a Cha penalty, which is a no-no for paladins) and since I didn't envision this character as spell-user I decided multi-class him to a fighter after 3 paladin levels. This way he gets detect evil, divine grace, lay on hands, divine health, aura of courage, smite evil, remove disease, and turn undead without having spells (which start at 4th level). This way he's an excellent fighter, but retains all the paladin abilities (except spells of course). Who says you can't have the best of both worlds? Image
Lay on hands is level dependent, correct? IE, you get 2x char level heal pts, iirc. Question is, even with only 3 pal levels, lay on hands (and other level dependent spells) takes total *char* level, not just pal levels, right?

:D hey guys/gals new to your forum here, read all the topics all of them great for chacters, well i've been playing iwd2 for some time now, and i havent seen my faverit race here so i thought i'd give u all my team of "3 halflings".

Nuitari, ghostwise halfling f4/barbxx str16, dex20, con18, int4, wiz16, chr4
full out tank, duel classed maces.

salena, ghostwise halfling barb4/cleric of tempisxx str16, dex20, con18, int4, wiz16, chr4 tank/buffer/summons skeletons, duel classed maces.

blade, Lightfoot halfling rogue6/cleric of mask str16, dex20, con18, int4, wiz16, chr4 buffer/magekiller duel classed dagger/shortsword

nuitari and salena are a brother/sister team, very earnest in temperment but loyol to friends/family they work well together when it comes to fighting but!.

blade cousen to nuitari/salena takes an underhanded way when near enemys always hidden in shadows never knowing what he's up to untill they see the goblimshamon fall flate on it's face do u see blade grining away.

well these 3 work well and i hope u all like them (halflings rock)

Hi guy's.
Hi Kayless.
Well, it's been a long time since i posted anything.
And it's been a while since i played agian IWD II.
But i'm at it agian.
This time i'm going solo. And yes, going solo, i need a multiclass character.

So, going solo, how would you advance your character?

Me, also being a good old fashion pnp roleplayer,
i'm playing one one my characters.
Female Wild Elf , Barb/Rog/Sor , name Onyx.
Oh yes, and the avater i'm using is her, hehehe.

You?

hehehe.
I was just asking to see what people come up with,
from a roleplaying point of view.
Very interesting character you've got there.
That's a lvl 30 character.
Cool.
What level of difficulty are you playing the game at?

I like using Socs, and normally have 2 to 3 in a party (3 fireball at the beginning of battles makes everything much easier :D ). For most instances, I give them all a level in paladin class (the saves, dud ;) ).

So here is my question: Is there any reason I should NOT do this? (roleplaying not counting, since I have everything in that aspact under my control)

Also, please let me know if you think that there are better classes to add than pals.

...hmmm...-...what is better then one PAL level for a sorc ?

...*two* PAL levels ;) :D

EDIT: on very high level (25+) you could think about adding monk or rogue levels to get evasion...

Two?

Shouldn't 2 be enough for the save bonus and lay on hands? why waste a level for a measly aura of courage and 1 use of smite evil?

...aura of courage - imunity to fear and +4 saves for party is just great !

...fear could get one of your biggest problems in HOI - many enemies with auras and fear seems to be one of the favorite enemy spells!
well, the idea was that if your are cleric, and have a good charisma too, then why not also take some level in sorcerer, maybe 2,3 even 4, not more, 'cause there are some low level spells a cleric can find usefull, like armor or shield type spells. Also identify, burning hands and so on. A cleric at low levels does not have many offensive spells. So imagine later on when you cleric is level 7 or 8, and you wish you had shield, or mage armor or whatever. Just 2 or 3 levels in sorcery could help. That's all.
No I wouldn't recommend it either; I tried that build (a few Sorc levels on a Cleric) and he got stomped.

Hey all, Atm I'm enjoying Icewind dale 2 a lott and am at the goblin warren. Im now on the splitting where i have to decide which weapons my heroes will be profinced in? (there lvl 6 now). This connected with the best weapons you get in the game :P . With 3 chars ive already decided but the rest are pretty much open.
I was planning to make my bard an expert in bow. But since the bard doesnt have one point in it standard i thought of giving 1lvl multiclassing or so. But to which class? Barbarian, ranger or Fighter (maybe even 4 lvls fighter for specilization). Oh and Kayless i wont change my bard for a diffrent class :P . Hes my talking man :P .

Importent for my party is, that i will be able to do almost everything possible storywise. I'm only missing a druid you could say. Besides that i want them to be powerfull ofcourse.

Here is my party:
Taelon Artery, Human, BardXX, ??
12/18/10/12/10/15+
Job: The one that does most of the talking.
Weapon feats:Took precise shot already

Bloodcast, Half-orc, BarbarianXX, 1lvl fighter
21+/12/16/10/8/8
job: Being a tank a big dmg dealer
Weapon feats: I already have 2 points in martial weapon, Axe. Sometimes hes soing onehnaded axe sometimes handed.

Asigar Sunwell, Aasimar, Paladin of helmXX
18/12/17+/10/14/10
Job: Being a tank with some healing spells.
Weapon feats: Took 1 point in exotic weapon, Bastard sword. Still wondering though which weapon is best for him.

Lithana Moonnight, Moon Elf, PriestXX
14/10/12/8/19+/14
Job: Being the main healer and if needed the third tank. She's also thee for turn undead.
Weapon feats: Have 2 points in Simple weapon, Mace. This way i also have one that deals bludgeon dmg.

Tharana Fanglair, Strongheart Halfling, Rogue XX, Ranger 1
12/21+/16/14/8/6
Job: To plunder people, to find and disable devices/traps, thats her job. Besides that she's also there for backstabing and if too wounded go in the back with a bow. (not sure if it should be a bow or what weapon?)
Weapon feats: Simple Weapon, Small blades: 2

Maddar Dabbletea, Rock Gnome, Wizard XX
10/14/14/19+/10/10
Job: Hes the one with alchemy skill, spellcasting and knowledge. Besides that he does the big bad spells and talks where int is needed. When hes not casting spells hell be at range ofcourse. Atm hes using a crossbow.
Weapon feats: none so far.

That is incorrect. Only Paladin levels count towards a character's Lay on Hands ability. My Pal 1 / Sor 6 with 18 charisma heals 4 HP once per day. Not 28 HP.

And he only gets three missiles when he casts Magic Missile, not four.

What about combining rogues with other classes? I was thinking of adding a few fighter levels to my rogue to beef him up, or maybe ranger but are rangers any good really? I mean whats with that animal tracking business, worth it? or better to go fighter and get more feats... or what about barbarian/rogue combo?

Also regardign barbarians, do they still keep their speed bonus when they are multi class? I multied one before and he seemed to revert to the normal walking speed of the party although I couldnt be sure. Thanks.
