Mr. Sleep, Darkpoet and others have made good points. We cannot even speak of revenge without knowing who is to blame. Conjecture on these boards is a waste of time and can be very hurtful to innocent people. Cooler heads must prevail. Take it easy everyone.

yeah... you're right I shouldn't be calling him that. Though it does sound a lot like "osama"...

First, condolences to DP, I am terribly sorry to hear about your loss.

second, I think as strongly as anyone that the U.S. needs to react. And strongly. But we have to be careful that the guilty party is indeed the one punished for this. At this time, there is no possible way to know who did this. there must be no doubt as to who the responsible party is before we act. right now, the U.S. has the sympathy and support of the international community. To lash out irresponsibly would cost us that precious commodity. As I said, the U.S. should retaliate, regardless of who is opposed to us. But with other nations condemning this act and offering support, that makes it much easier to find and punish whoever is responsible. I don't feel that we should lash out or blame anyone until an investigation is conducted. The risk of losing international support is not worth it just to act irrationally.

@Shadow - I will keep your friend in my thoughts, as with the others.

I was talking to a good friend of mine this afternoon. Her best friend was flying into NY this morning and she has been unable to contact her. This young lady is due to get married in a couple of weeks...I don't know - I am on the other side of the world and we are talking possible victims in the playground of my kids' school :(

@Shadow - please keep us up-dated...

Here is a sobering thought.

How many of you, would of run into the WTC, to help get people out?

This totally sucks!

I was in my 2nd period class at school when it happened. I couldn't concentrate on any of my work because my parent's work at NSA(National Security Agency) and I only live about 35 miles from D.C.

@DP, you and your family have my condolonces...

@DP - I really do not know. To me the whole situation is still beyond belief...you don't know how you would react...

The thing is, when you are in this kind of situation, a lot of people respond without thought - much to the annoyance of emergency services.

I would like to say that I would be held back by determined firemen...but I really don't know - faced with the enormity of it. :)

Final note for military people : Why don't you just terminate that Osama and forget the other side effects ? Just whack that sick B*stard. I'm not accusing him but apparently all the clues from the news were pointed at him. send in the KT !</STRONG>
To hit somebody you must know where to find him.
And futher more - we don't know if it was infact Bin Ladin that was responcible for this attack.
I can name up to 3-4 states wich could have been interested in this - and that is not counting terrorists groups/cells.

Bin Ladin is now the best bet, but it is highly uncertain information as yet.
Nobody knows anything yet.

Not everybody, just some fanatics...some Palestinias feel Arafat has let them down by even entering a peace process. Just like some extreme fanatic pro-Israeli hate everything Palestinian and Arabic, some Palestinians hate everything Israeli and American...It's very difficult to comprehend :(

You don't think action should be taken against bin Ladan?

It's confirmed he was at the center of previous actions of terrorism, which he has never paid for.

He said about three weeks ago that there was going to be an 'unprecedented attack on the U.S.'

We owed him before today.

DP - unfortunately she is resident in NY. Where she was flying in from I do not know, I do not know the girl but a good friend of mine does.

My friend is not a drama queen, she was genuinely concerned - she needs to find the flight details - times etc - because any other normal day it is not the kind of detail you check. All she knows is her best friend was on an internal flight to NY sometime this morning (this morning in US time).

Hopefully she was a later flight... :(

What is unfortunate is these victims will be statistics. They will be numbers too many to name...

My heart really goes out to these families... :(

A sobering thought indeed. That's why I have the deepest respect and admiration to people who save the lives of others as a profession.
I have certainly never been in a situation as extreme and massive as this, but judging from how have acted in other situations when people have been in danger, I probably would rush into the WTC. Thus, I would probably have been dead now if I'd been there.

I hear many firemen and policemen were killed :( The died trying to save as many other people as possible. My thoughts and condolences to them and their families. :(

Well I also think action should be taken against him, but not only because of today.
And I think action should be taken against all terrorist groups.
I could understand fighting for your country by fighting military objectives - I would never understand killing innoccents in this way.

@DP: I would do all in my power to help thoese trapped. I know it sounds corny, and I don't expect people to belive me, but I know.

BTW my heart goes out to you, your kin and other victimes of this tragedy.

I've never before been shocked by cruelty in this world, I have been today.

Just leave it be, it is important.
If only I have been in the state to donate blood, especially when I have a rather rare bloodtype :(
