Sorry to hear that Aegis, and I say that as a sympathizer. Two of my freinds were killed in a terrorist attack in mid august (I took about a month off from my pc then) while waiting at a pizza store were I was suppose to meet them.

I am telling you all this so that
1)you may feel damn guilty about what you may have done

While you all suck hobbit toes, I am particularly upset with (check all that apply):
_X_ SYM :( for not voting me any awards.

Don't you know that
1)I am so much smarter than all of you?
2)I have been here so much longer than all of you?
3)I have feelings too? and,
4)may my gods smite you, eventually. (Hey they are very lazy and stoned gods O.K.)

In closing, please know that
1)I'd rather vote G W Bush for Miss Cuba than see any of your photos/avatars/sigs again, and
3)We can meet back here next week for my goodbye ;) part II.

Seriously,

I am about to embark on another one of those adventures which we can all have in life where you throw the dice up and see where they land. I have never been a happy city dweller and so I have 70 acres of forrest (we call it bush) up towards the hot wet part of the East coast of Australia (Hey I could give you the address and you STILL wouldn't find me/it/anything but trees).

I don't have grid power, running water.. up there so the chances of me maintaining contact with Game Banshee Forums are slight (In the extreme). I have had fun with you guys and gals but alas I have to turn the page. Apart from Game Banshee, I'm also giving up: Grid Power, Running water, a well paid job in the Australian Government, commuting in heavy traffic, the blissful ignorance of the operation of a chainsaw, a mortgage, my rose garden :( .

Why should twenty or so people on an internet forum care about this or know that I care enough about them to share it with them? The best thing about small world technology is that we can get together and (despite evidence like Waverly and Weasel) demonstrate that we are very similar. I could have replied to Aegis's 'the decline of humanity' but rather than take one side or the other in a debate I'll just say what I think.

Life is an opportunity, we can't change everything in it, around us, or such, but with good health (etc.) you can do pretty much what ever you want. Grasp it and do something with it.

Unfortunately despite my words of wisdom above, my lasting legacy to gameBanshee:SYM will most likely be - Bunnies and 'Very unfluffy wuffy' - it is an immortallity (of sorts). - Curdis !

P.S. I may drop by to make sure that my history lesson stays near the top and that you are all being good boys and girls ;) *group hug*.

@Georgi, Many voted, well O.K. maybe it was just you, but I didn't WIN anything. You can see my problem here :) .*hug*
@Kayless, Nice work with the smilies.
@Mr Sleep, I was only joking about the smilies. The good Dr Wu only allowed me a limited choice of reasons and it was the best one!
@C.E. Thanks, very fluffy indeed (esp. Eastern Spotted Quoll). *hug*

Never trust a biologist. There are many species of Quoll (it turns out). The one in my area is the Spot-Tail Quoll which is quite distinct from the Eastern Quoll.

The Eastern Quoll 'The Eastern Quoll (or native cat as it is sometimes called) has striking white spots and black or fawn fur. A graceful predator, Eastern Quolls are found in a variety of habitats including rainforest, heathland, alpine areas and scrub. This small marsupial feeds on insects, small birds and mammals and some berries. Like the bandicoot it helps farmers by acting as a natural control on many pasture and crop pests.

Noted in the 19th century as one of the most common of our native animals, Eastern Quolls are now considered extinct on the mainland. Tasmania, where the species is still common, is currently their last chance for survival. Habitat loss and the introduction of exotic predators and competitors such as foxes and cats have most likely resulted in the dramatic decline in quoll numbers. Efforts to replant native vegetation on farms and responsible pet ownership, specifically keeping cats in at night, as well as preventing foxes reaching Tasmania, will help the existing population to remain healthy as well as benefiting many other native animals. Recent unconfirmed sightings of the Eastern Quoll in northern NSW have caused some excitement that they may still survive on the mainland.'

Whereas the spot-tail Quoll (where I am)- Combination of habitat loss and fragmentation, possible disease at turn of century, competition with foxes and feral cats, predation by foxes and dogs and impact of widespread strychnine baiting for dingoes. Most recently non-target mortality from trapping and poisoning (use of 1080 poison without adequate protection of non-target species is of major concern in most States within range). Direct persecution is significant as they are attracted to caged birds and do not necessarily take flight when discovered.

Estimated forest loss as a result of clearing within its former range in south-east Queensland is over 70%, with the majority of loss occurring over the last 20 years.

The species uses a large number of den sites throughout the year and activities that impact on the number of den logs are likely to be significant. Spot-tailed Quolls are susceptible to 1080 poisoning and may be affected by fox control programs.

In Tas. this taxon is naturally rare, possibly as a result of competition with D. viverrinus, Sarcophilus harrisii and feral cats (Jones 1995). This renders it vulnerable to decline. Road mortality could be a significant factor where high speed roads and good habitat coincide, as quolls are attracted to feed on carcasses of road-killed animals.

Dasyurus maculatus maculatus (Kerr, 1792)'
