Yes I liked that book a lot when I read it. He did another one called, here, the plague (La Peste, I believe). It is also very good. You might like that too if you haven't read it

just read that it inspired "Killing an Arab" by the Cure (note that this is not an anti-Arab or anti-Muslim song).

@ Slade:
a. You're dead :D
b. It's your language, it beats me why the expression is like that. The expression in my language would be translated as "on punishment by death"

It is a specialised use comes from poena -latin for punishment, I think. English is funny that way

*makes an announcement* the phrase "sharp as a die" is a Rav original. ;)

Off topic. There are idiots talking about the West Lothian question on the radio now and I am sick to the back teeth of this nonsense. How is it people can talk about a perfectly simple question for years and never understand it? Grrrr

@ Slade: my persona here is a ... ?
@ Fiona: as far as I'm concerned the West Lothian Question is "What or where is West Lothian?".

Sorry people. It is a ridiculous argument which has been going on here for years and it relates to Scottish so-called devolution and the constitutional implications of that. A minority interest I grant. Just irritates me greatly.

West Lothian is a scottish parliamentary constituency and the question is so called because it was first posed by the MP for that constituency, who should have known better
