Howdy all,
I had a good four day weekend out of town. Just returned yesterday and got meself caught up on the story (not a lot of entries) and the spam er... discussion thread where there was lots of by products to sift through.
@Gwally,
very clever completion of the ritual. that was bueno.
@DW and Ysh,
I must say I'm surprised you relented control of aegis so soon. I thought your first 'dual dispel magic' attempt would have wound up with aegis looking in the mirror at a xvart or a kobold commando. Yip Yip Yip Yip Yip.

@BS,
Yes. It's good but it is crying for multiplayer. It would be perfect.

It's fantastic. Baldurs gate it isn't but it has its strongpoints. Visually, its' stunning. The most amazing game I've seen graphically.
It is way less complicated than BG/IWD which is good and bad. Elaborate:
The Good: The less overhead allows for continuous action. In fact, pausing the game makes it too easy; whereas in BG, you had your autopauses for being hit, enemy sighted, spell cast, end of turn, etc... DS actually runs better without pausing the game. So far, I've only paused it when someone is on the brink of death. Usually an NPC who charged headlong into a significant number of baddies, so I'll pause for a quick heal and then work on getting him out of there. So the only pauses I've done have been when someone gets out of control.
The bad: It's not BG2, a game we all really enjoyed. It doesn't have the NPC interaction (one reason it screams for mulitplayer), and it doesn't have the Infinity/DnD engine which was one of the most alluring features of BG2.
A couple of other minor negatives. While it is amazing you can rotate the camera in play, you can't really look up. I found myself sometimes two inches away from the monitor trying to look into my screen. It draws you in but it teases. Not being able to look up is a bummer, however, it would add a lot more to the game I think creating that much more world in a continuous fashion (does that make sense?)
When you pull up the main map, you can't move all over to see previously explored areas. This forces you to really keep your bearings. Nothings worse than being overmatched and then retreating to unexplored areas (hint: there is something to fight around every corner).
The game has been mostly compared to diablo. I don't know. I didn't care for diablo and I really like this. more later.

ROFL
It was rather tempting....I briefly considered turning him into a green goblin, wearing a frilly, pink apron but I managed to resist the urge

Hi DF's.
Decided to take on reading the story--haven't had time lately. I'm up to page 300, Book 3. Just got through the endless ritual. Now whenever I drink Tia Maria, I'll think of Thantor, and whenever I make chili (always with lots of cumin), I'll think of Gwally.
Hopefully will finish the rest of Book 3 soon.

@Aegis and Obsidian
Just remember...I live in the same country as the two of you......Yes that should be cause for your concern....
Seriously, do at least try to get through the present book, it will help to provide context and an understanding of how we have developed our characters.
