Well it can be if you are a powergamer
Actually as a thief it is quite good fun, you can run around backstabbing everyone

i found the theif to be boring to solo. the character didn't change enough by level for me to keep an interest. the incremental changes in thieving skills just didn't keep me going.
but that's why i loved soloing a sorcerer, every level, your character's entire range of possibilities advanced.
