Did you guys in the States or Europe, get any coverage of the SAG awards. We missed out on watching the event in Australia, but the awards are often regarded as the best indication of who would win during the Oscars.

I heard that Russell Crowe, Halle Berry and Ian McKellen won. But what took best picture?

There is no best picture in the SAG awards- its only for performances. The closest thing they have is the ensamble award, which went (rightfuly IMO) to Gosford park.

I had forgotten about Duel, that is a fantastic film, may i just ask, why was he being chased? :D :D :D

Looking through his Fimography; it says to me that he has made many films for the studio that he didn't necessarily want to (Jurrasic Park an example) and the movies he wanted to make were important and defining movies.

On the subject of road movies, and i don't know who mentioned it, but is it true that Sylvester Stallone has remade Vanishing Point. My one question, why?

It was one of Spielbergs first, it is basically a story about a man being chased by a trucker, sounds boring, but is absolutely fantastic, the tension is brilliant, watch it :)

That I've actualy never seen, since its not avaialble for rent, sale and I've never seen it on TV.

Your getting the wrong impression- Universal told him that he needed to make a mony maker in order to make Schindler's list, so he presented to them a few ideas he had- and out of that they chose Jurrasic Park.
As it says in the biography- he was about to make Rain Man, but because of a handshake deal, he left it to Barry Levinson in order to make The last crusade- which IMO is the best indy and one of his most all around great movies. I don't know any more about this, but I think he wanted to make it, despite being 'forced' into it.

@Tamerlane- havn't you paid attention to my links? all of them are from imdb. It is the most complete and trustworthy site for movies an actors that I have found.

I just Saw tha SAG (Screen Actors Guild) awards, and as usual, the show was pretty dull, but here i what I can rememeber off the top of my head.

Movies:
Best Ensamble: "Gosford park" - best choice

Best Actress: Hally Berry for "Monsters Ball" - Nicole Kidman should have won. She wasn't even nominated!

Best Actor: Russal Crowe ro "A Beutiful Mind". Predictable, but he is still the most deserving.

Best supporting actor: Ian Mckellen for "Lord of the Rings". Definatly deserving, but I think that Jim Broadbent should have won for "Moulin Rouge" (he was nominated for "Iris").

Best supporting actress: Helen Mirren For "Gosford Park". I didn't realy like her in the movie. I think Maggie Smith (in the same movie) should have won. But again, she wasn't even nominated.

TV:
Best Ensamble for a TV comedy: "Sex in the City". I never watch this, though I think "Friends" or "Raymond" should have won.

Best Ensamble for TV Drama: "West Wing". I havn't seen the latest season, but normaly I'd be tied between this and "The Sopranos"

Best Actress in a drama series: Allison Janney for "The West Wing"

Best Actor in a drama series: Martin Sheen for "The West Wing"

Best Actress in a comedy series: Sarah Jessica Parker for "Sex and the City"

Thats what I remember.

Just to add in my vote for IMDb - it's the most useful site on the web for finding out movie info ;)

Re. SAG awards, I did see something about it, but the show wasn't screened here. Here's a list of the nominees and winners in the movie categories:

Best Actor: Russell Crowe for A Beautiful Mind
Sean Penn for I Am Sam
Tom Wilkinson (I) for In the Bedroom
Kevin Kline for Life as a House
Denzel Washington for Training Day

No surprises here. For the Oscar, I'm actually swaying more towards Will Smith, his performance in Ali is impressive.

Best Actress: Halle Berry for Monster's Ball
Jennifer Connelly for A Beautiful Mind
Renée Zellweger for Bridget Jones's Diary
Sissy Spacek for In the Bedroom
Judi Dench for Iris

I haven't seen Monster's Ball... but Berry probably deserves the award more than Nicole Kidman would have. Still, it's surprising she wasn't even nominated.

Best Supporting Actress: Helen Mirren for Gosford Park
Cate Blanchett for Bandits
Dakota Fanning for I Am Sam
Judi Dench for The Shipping News
Cameron Diaz for Vanilla Sky

In agreement with Morlock here  I thought Maggie Smith was better in Gosford Park.

Best Supporting Actor: Ian McKellen for LotR
Jim Broadbent for Iris
Hayden Christensen for Life as a House
Ben Kingsley for Sexy Beast
Ethan Hawke for Training Day

I think Jim Broadbent probably should have won this one... but good on Ian McKellen ;)

Best Ensemble Cast: Gosford Park
A Beautiful Mind
In the Bedroom
LotR
Moulin Rouge!

Definitely agree with this one... although LotR would come a close second IMO

@Sleepy Say it ain't so!! I haven't heard anything about Sly remaking Vanishing Point (though there is a lame TV remake...), one can only hope not. He does like to remake old movies though - anyone see Get Carter? Thought not ;) I did find this old rumour on the IMDb though, maybe what you heard was confused...

Stallone Wants To Re-Make Cult Car Film

Movie tough guy Sylvester Stallone wants to re-make the film that gave him his Hollywood breakthrough. Death Race 2000 (1975) was directed by Paul Bartel in 1975, and also starred David Carradine. The story follows five fanatical racing car rivals driving coast- to-coast across America, scoring points by killing pedestrians en route. And Stallone says, "With the special effects we have today it could be an incredible movie, the greatest race ever seen. Paul did a fantastic job considering it was 25 years ago. I think a re-make would be a great tribute to him. I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for that tiny movie. Who knows, we might even be tempted to get Paul Newman behind the wheel."

Realy? thats great! The place I rent DVD's from gets everything from all over the worl within a week!

I saw Black Hawk Down last night.
I wasn't especialy impressed. Because at the core of the movie- there is no intelligence, it just about the shooting and the action, which was of course amazing, but not enough to make an entire movie out of.

I think Sam Shepard (as major general William Garrison)portrayed such a stupid, useless and unexpirienced character- who in most of his scenes all he did was sit down and look intense, not saying a word.
I assume everyone noticed Legolas AKA Orlando Bloom as Private Todd Blackburn?
I think a big flaw in the movie was all the foreign actors. They are great actors, but not as Americans. I think, that to make sure their accents didn't slip- they gave them all some sort of southern accent- with which you could slip a little and it still would be unnoticable.
I think its getting realy annoying the way Jerry Bruckheimer often uses the same cast in his movies. In this one:
Josh Hartnet- was in Pearl Harbor
Ewan Bremner- was in Pearl Harbor
Tom Seizmore- was in Pearl Harbor and Enemy of the State
Willaim Fitchner- was in Pearl Harbor and Armageddon
Jason Isaacs- was in Armageddon
Gregory Sporleder- was in the Rock
Kim Coates- was in the Rock, Bad boys and Pearl Harbor
Also Bruckheimer often and Ridley Scott always uses composer Hans Zimmer- He did Pearl Harbor, The Rock and Crimson tide.

A note on Jason Isaacs- He is a great actor, his best role IMO was in the Patriot- he was Tavington, the bad guy. Whats funny about that, is that he was critisized for playing the English as Nazis (which he sort of was), when he is a conservative Jew for whom, the next Harry Potter film (he is playing Lucius Malfoy) had to change his filming scedual so that he wouldn't have to work on Passover, so that he could go to Israel to visit his parents.
