Order of the Dark Flame (Story, No Spam)
Viv sat on a rock, lost in thought as usual, the vague shadows of her companions moving with their various activities around her. She was trying to work out a flight spell, but couldn't get it just right. It had a lot to do with ones mindset, and alas she wasn't feeling very bird like at the moment.
Gwalchmai walked by clanging a pot and she heard him mutter
"I musst for them..."
But then he walked out of ear shot. Her eyes rested on him, and she watched as he moved about the camp doing his usual tasks, his eyes seemed almost to dart accusingly at the others.
She left her wonderfully comfortable rock and walked quietly towards him as he bent over a pot, the vapors of his cooking rising around his head.
As she neared, the shadow of Enoch fell over her and she reached into her bag, to make sure a honey roll was in the right position against such a lechorous person...

"Hmm," Waverly thought. "I suppose you aren't... but I am," he smirked. Best let that Georgi run off and think about the nice but conflicted paladin for a while.
He looked at DP and gave a furtive wave. "Where is Thanatos? I so wanted to have him read my shakras...*evil laughter*"
Ah, this was going to be fun. Making sure Georgi was not in sight Waverly approached Viv. Gently taking hold of a lock of her hair, he began gingerly working out a matt caused by a bit of tree sap. She was reaching for another roll to hurl at him when he said, “Your hair is far to lovely to let this little imperfection spoil it.” She unhanded the roll, and with a smile tossed her mane back over her shoulders for his inspection. Being hit in the face, Waverly wondered if she was operating under the delusion that it smelled of wild flowers and fresh rain. In reality is was a bit more earthy, and the odor of damp moss came to mind…

Catching herself preening a bit Viv gave a small laugh and leaned over to kiss Enoch on the cheek.
"I know your type, and you'll need more that baited words and treacherous hands to get far with me."
She turned away smiling slightly, but soon the smile was slightly strained, as determination to get to the bottom of the Gwalchmai situation returned.
She neared the noble druid leaning over the same pot, and placed her hand upon his arm.
"What is wrong? You don't seem...yourself. I don't know how to explain it...but your eyes...something's different."
Ooc: I could be making a fool of myself, but it seemed that Gwalchy was acting odd... If I'm making a fool of myself, well, what's new with that?

Thinking again, Waverly summoned a ferret and the animal dashed off towards Gwalchmai and disappeared into his pant leg. Within moments he was performing an odd dance and yelping. *Crash* he went into the pot, burning himself. Then he toppled Viv, nearly stopping on her surprised and prone form. Finally he stepped into the fire and howled like a wolf gone mad. Suddenly the ferret dashed out of his sleeve and off into the woods; leaving an injured and embarrassed Gwalchmai to explain his behavior to a fuming Viv.

When Kramor had given his advice, Loner paused for a moment. Then she turned and knelt, sitting back on her heels, in a meditative posture. She could sense Kramor behind her. just standing and waiting patiently for her to go through whatever it was she needed to go through...and she sensed another presence, silent, but stealthily moving toward her. She tensed for an instant -- then breathed deeply. When the thing was poised to strike, she was swift with the staff and came up hitting her attacker. But her eyes were now open, and she saw nothing. In the corner of her eye she saw Kramor fall forward as if struck, the turn to face his own attacker -- again, there was nothing there. Loner got a dread chill, dropped the staff and drew the Katana. Neither of them could see anything. Kramor started to say something, but Loner silenced him, and stood absolutely still, listening.
"Damn it!!" Loner yelled as she watched Kramor turned to stone before her very eyes. As she looked around to see who had done it, the invisible attackers took the advantage. One sliced her arm badly. She inwardly cursed herself for being an idiot. She could almost hear Thantor's voice in her head, what he would say: "Focus, Loner. No emotion. Leave all that nonsense and focus. Distractions will kill you..."
Where on earth is he, anyway?... Another distraction, another successful attack, this time a deep stab in the right shoulder blade. She closed her eyes and strove to shut out the pain, but now the pain itself was a distraction, keeping her from sensing the enemy's location...

"I tripped, that'ss all," Gwalchmai said, dusting himself off. After dealing with Vivien and sending her off to the creek to get washed, Gwalchmai looked around at the other occupants of the camp. Dragon Wench had not seemed to notice the commotion, and Darkpoet smirked to himself and seemed intent on carving wooden toys with his dagger. Only Enoch was looking at him, with a slightly bemused look on his face. Gwalchmai stalked over to Enoch and led him forcibly by the elbow away from the camp. “You idiot!” he hissed, “I had just put the last of the poison in the lentilss.”
“Unhand me, you supercilious errand boy,” Enoch began, but then he looked in Gwalchmai’s eyes, and for an instant, just for the briefest flicker, the druid’s eyes appeared as vertical slits, like those of a cayman.
“For one who dallies in the changeling artss, you see very little. I don’t understand why you are favored by the Master, nor why he is so interested in this ineffective group,” Gwalchmai whispered.
Now angry, Enoch lowered his voice, “Quiet! I’ll not have you blow my cover! Better you should die than these mortals know who I am.” He shook his arm free and stomped off to stage a ‘rescue’ of Kramor and Loner.

That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.
Viv frowned as she lathered her hair with Rose-Petal Shampoo and Conditioner at the Creek. She still didn't feel that Gwalchmai was behaving like himself. His eyes had been so cold. She had thought, that maybe...but why was she thinking of men? She should be working on a few spells, maybe practice her fingering and style.
She submerged completely under the rushing water, feeling all the camp grime wash away, and with it some of her stress. She then dried lazily on a rock in the sun before dressing and heading back in the general direction of camp...

At this point Loner was blinded by the pain, but this could be used to her advantage...when the physical realm could not be seen, other senses awoke. Or so Lomoro always said...Suddenly she found herself back in Kara-Tur, in the temple with Lomoro, wearing a blindfold and being mercilessly beaten. But he was a good teacher...Closing her eyes, she focused all her concentration on the energy around her, and when she sensed a presence to her left, she struck with a kiai. Another strange howl, and the thing was gone. Loner fell to her knees.

Waverly couldn’t believe what he just heard from Gwalchmai. Was anyone in this party what they appeared to be? Just then he spied Kramor standing tall in his granite splendor. Well yes, Kramor was exactly what he appeared to be: a rock head. And to think, his impotence problem had been taken care of so elegantly. He was now as rigid as they come.
Waverly swooped in and carried the semi-conscious Loner off and back towards camp. Placing a note of grave concern in his voice, he spoke. “What has happened, who attacked you? No, don’t speak. I will see you safely home. We will find the vile perpetrators of these misdeeds. Until then, rest, and know that I will protect you.”

Loner summoned her strength as best she could and suddenly seized Enoch by the throat. Quick as a blink she had him thrown and pinned to the ground. Her strength was gone, but her training had taught her how to fight without physical strength, and Enoch was solidly immobilized. "Tell me," she croaked out, "why I should trust you."
