What makes a great RPG to me is "PC development". I like the stories and the NPCs, but the thing that really drives me is improvement of my character. I like to be able to change the way he looks, I like the excitement of finding and using new items, and I like to be able to continually improve in ...

Also remember, in terms of hit points, your characters only go up like 3 HP per level after they reach a certain point. So don't expect to have a fighter with 300 HP, just because he reached lvl 30.

It may be possible, but it's not realistic to expect to max out your exp. You'd have to kill a massive amount of random encounters to even come close. And when I say "massive amount" I mean to the point of boredom. I played a group of 4 characters (so the exp was divided by four instead of six, ie ...

I'd go ahead and install HOW now. I'm not sure what you mean by higher HP?

If you're playing IWD, you'll be able to enter HOW from a house in Kuldahar, but you have to be lvl 9 or higher. You can go back and forth. You can "finish" IWD before you do HOW, but it's not necessary. I went to HOW, just ...

Which indicates you have very little on which to actually base your opinions. None less than what you're trying to use to debunk it. The fact that I don't have that answer isn't any more damning than the fact that you don't have the answer either. You can't prove that Deity X exists, but that doesn ...

I fail to see how this answers CE's question. You are taking carefully-chosen ambiguously hypothetical scenarios and positing them as reasoning. Indeed, there are species that have become extinct, but I don't see what this has to do with compassion. There is really nothing in the fossil record that ...

Fair enough. Social Darwinism is not the right word for it. It was your term first anyway. Regardless, you're arguing semantics.

And I'll also give you that I "do not (k)now anything about evolutionary science and mechanisms." I may not go so far as to say I know nothing, but I'll ...

Unfortunately I can't undo what's been done. Maybe my prosperity is an indirect result of my forefather's sins, but how can I be held responsible?Slavery can't be undone. I also don't discount "luck" (as in lucky enough to have forefathers that took advantage of countless weaker races) as a ...

@JSPCHIEF: I seems you need to do some reading on Social Darwinism and evolutionary science, because what you describe is not related to evolution. You do know that Social Darwinism has little in common with evolutionary science except abusing the name of Darwin?

I will reply point by point to ...

I tried to solo, and based on my experience I'd say it's impossible.

The obvious reason is the inability to perform some of the basic functions that each class functions. The only class that would have a prayer is a mage, so you could identify and unlock.

But playing as a mage takes you to the ...

1. What are these "laws of nature" you are referring to? Can you describe them? Is it something like Social Darwinism, it sounds so? What are the mechanisms and consequences of these "laws"?

Social Darwinism and just plain Darwinism. Natural selection. Survival of the fittest. For example ...

I'll go ahead and post the unpopular opinion. Keep in mind, I've arrived at my opinion based on my experience in Iowa. I have no doubt things are different in other places, but for the most part it probably wouldn't change my mind.

Human Paladin
Human Fighter-Druid (dual class at level 13)
Halfling Fighter-Thief
Dwarven Fighter-Cleric
Half-Elven Bard
Gnome Mage with no specialization if possible, elven mage if not

That's a lot of fighters. IWD is certainly hack-n-slash, but you might consider just pure classing some of ...

Question 7) I definetly want a dwarf cleric. The question is, should he be a cleric, or a fighter-cleric? Does pure-classing the cleric make a big difference in terms of the potency of spells/turn undead when they'd be most useful?

I went pure cleric, and still felt like the turning was very weak ...

For Ranger racial enemy I went with trolls. It's always nice to have a little extra umph when those guys are regenerating faster than I can acid-arrow their corpses.

Salamanders are frequent, but I think they're fairly weak so I wouldn't go that route.

If I went undead, I'd probably go cadaverous ...

Yea. it was definately a bug. I just reloaded and it worked fine. Of course, the reason I had finally had success was because I finally found the appropriate ...
