The only way to this area your first time is from the Temple Escape Tunnel (#2) where you'll either get to from the Tower Ruins or from Dungeon Level 3 of the temple. Once you've found out about the area, it's a quick way to access your World Map from deep within the dungeons or to come back to the dungeons when you've made a re-supply or rest run in town.
