Area Note
The interior of the castle is made up largely of a hedge maze (shown with green walls). You can move through the walls of the maze if you want, but each time do, it’s possible one of your characters will be killed.
1 - Hill Giants
You’ll face about a half dozen hill giants here.
2 - Minor Treasure
If you “look” here you’ll find 11 gold pieces.
3 - Fire Giants
You’ll face four fire giants here.
4 - Gate
If you stole from the Temple of Bane (in the southwestern quadrant) then the gate guards will throw stones at you, and you’ll have to bash your way through the door. Otherwise, they should ask you for the password, which is “rhodia.” You can learn the password in a couple of ways: from freeing Cadorna (in the Southeastern Quadrant) and letting him follow you, and by talking to some hill giants (in the Northeastern Quadrant).
5 - Two Giants
You’ll run into two hill giants here, but if you’re “haughty” you can talk your way past them.
6 - Loose Floorboards
If you “look” here you’ll notice some loose floorboards. Underneath them you’ll discover a potion of speed and 200 gold pieces.
7 - Guard Post
If you fight the human fighter inside, you’ll gain a long sword +1 when he dies.
8 - Mage
The game will call him “harmless,” and he’ll claim that Tyranthraxus captured him, but you can “attack him” or “let him go” if you want. If you attack him but then decide to let him go, he’ll give you his notes (journal entry 30). If you kill him, you’ll find bracers of AC 3, a ring of fire resistance, and a wand of lightning.
9 - Teleporter
This teleporter will take you to one of the other teleporters in the inner part of the castle.
Exits:
A. Passage to the Southwestern Quadrant.
B. Passage to the Northeastern Quadrant.
C. Stairs to the Upper and Lower Levels.
