Smoldering Corpse Bar (AR0402) [Legacy Page]

Did we miss anything on this map? Is there something we didn't discover? Let us know!

1 - Ebb Creakknees & Candrian

Ebb Creakknees is a good source of information, so be sure to talk with him to learn more about Sigil and the surrounding area. You don't necessarily have to speak with him, though you will be running into him again when you reach Carceri, so you may want to become acquainted with him.

Candrian is a Planeswalker and thus possesses much knowledge about the many doors in and out of Sigil. If you previously spoke with Ingress in the northeast portion of the Hive, you can tell Candrian about her dilemma and he will agree to help her. This will earn you 750 experience points and a set of Ingress' Teeth for Morte. These chompers will increase in power as Morte gains levels, so you'll definitely want to obtain them if you have the time.

You can also quiz Candrian about his survival techniques while traveling the Negative Material Plane and he will give you the Negative Token. The Negative Token will increase your Armor Class toward Shadows and can also be invoked to paralyze the creatures when you're in battle with them.

For an extra 250 experience points, you may also want to talk with the guy nearby named Alais. Simply teaching him about the Planes will get you the experience boost.

2 - Barkis the Bartender

Barkis is the bartender here in the Smoldering Corpse. He'll recognize you when you approach him, and he'll tell you that he has one of your old eyes. For 500 coppers (or 300, with a charisma of 13+), you can purchase the eye back from Barkis. This will earn you 750 experience points and a proficiency point. But note: replacing your eye will damage you for 15 hp, and if this kills you then you won't get anything from the eye, and you'll end up back in the Mortuary.

Barkis will also tell you that one of his patrons has not paid their bar tab. Offer to help him take care of the problem, then head over to Mochai at area #5. Regardless of how you obtain the money, you'll earn 1000 experience points and Barkis' gratitude.

If you're looking for a brawl, feel free to walk up to Ilquix near the bar. Ilquix is a demon with no respect for the law, and putting him down for his beliefs is worth 12,000 experience points. The fight is fairly difficult, though, so don't attempt it until you're ready.

3 - Dak'kon & "O"

Dak'kon is most likely the second companion you will add to your party in Planescape: Torment. Speak with him for a bit and he will eventually offer to join your party. Allow him into your ranks for 1000 experience points. You can also debate his opinion that Sigil is "flawed", and with an Intelligence or Wisdom of 14+, you will eventually get the better of him during the debate and earn 500 experience points.

O recognizes you and even knows a bit about your continued amnesia. Learn as much as you can, then ask him about the "secrets of existence." Follow this dialogue to eventually confront him about not knowing such secrets to earn a +1 bonus to your wisdom. This also causes O to dissipate. Strange.

4 - Ignus

Ignus is another companion you can eventually add to your party, though it probably won't be during your first visit to the Smoldering Corpse. After you have obtained the Decanter of Endless Water from the Drowned Nations and learned the command word from Nemelle in the Clerk's Ward, you can bring it to Ignus and use it to set him free. This will earn you 5000 experience points and allow you to recruit the fiery mage into your ranks.

5 - Mochai

Mochai is the woman that Barkis mentioned owes him money. To get her to pay up, you can either threaten her (evil alignment shift), poison her with a Jar of Embalming Fluid (evil alignment shift), or agree to pitch in 100 coppers to help her with the debt (good alignment shift). Once Barkis has been paid, talk to him again to earn 1000 experience points and full bar privileges.
