sick of run time errors. Help!

Postby IZiz » Sun Feb 11, 2001 2:13 pm

It only ever happens when I sometimes go to check someones inventory. Oddly, it doesn't matter what game I've created when or where but it seems to pick on Jaheira the most but it has happened to others but never my main character. So I click on Inventory and after a delay I get a win 32's run time error. What makes this crash worse is the scan disk will then detect something wrong with my hard drive itself and wants to do the 1 hour check and fix. It is not my computer as everything else under the sun works and works great. It is win 95. Sometimes the crash happens when I go to put on a shield or a helm. Sometimes it actually fixes itself if I avoid a characters inventory for long enough. I have the patch. How the heck can I stop this game from crashing in inventory? Your help is greatly appreciated as this has been bugging me for a while.

I should add that after the one hour disc scan etc scandisk never finds an error. It just thinks there is one. I have a RIVA TNT 16 BIT PCI CARD so its not that card thing they mention.

I am playing without the patch and I have never seen any runtime errors. I have Riva TNT2 Ultra video card, so the riva isn't the source of problems. Check your hardware settings for the game. Another possible source of problems: Riva cards work good with PIII but they do not work well with K6. If you have K6 in your computer then you could experience problems with ANY intensive 3D accelerated applications. Another possible source of the problems is the patch.
Note: I have W98, PIII 550, Caviar ATA66 UDMA HD, 128 MB RAM, Asus V3800 video, hardware settings: computer - above average, video - top.

No it never happens when I save only to check an inventory [doesn't matter which way I go in to check inventory] and it happens when I go to equip a shield or helm. It only seems to corrupt one player at a time. It doesn't always happen but when it does my game is permanently corrupt and it doesn't matter then if I go to a previous save as the problem is still there. Sometimes it goes away afer a very long time where I can then go and check my inventory. It has only ever effected Jaheira and Mazzy. Mostly Jaheira. All other inventories and equipping works for all other characters. Sometimes with Jaheira it'll crash on a small shield but not for a large shield. It happens the second I go to equip it and it doesn't happen all the time it just pops up now and then. I have tryed 3 different starts and I have yet to complete act 3 without one character becoming corrupt. I don't believe it's my graphic card I have regular intel chip and newest drivers you can get. Everything else about this game works and I have never had it crash for any other reason. That run time error is a nasty one though as scandisk thinks my drive became corrupt when in fact it hasn't. it's a win 32's runtime error. Those are rare I have played many many different online games and the only other game that ever caused a similiar problem was a game made by bluebyte but it was because of a funky europeon winsock error. so anyway Since nobody has a solution has anyone had the same things happening to them? Thanks again and look forward to your replies.
