Hopefully not the usual Jaheira dilemmas

Postby Nizidramanii'yt » Thu May 05, 2005 10:48 am

2nd time through...and my first run seemed smooth and bugfree...I roleplayed a good aligned party with my PC being a Cavalier.
But now...well...Roleplaying an evil-aligned party headed by a Fighter/Mage/Thief...
Something happened in regards to the Harper Quest that i haven't seen posted even after i searched the forums...
Did the Renfeld thing, exposed Xzar for the Harpers...i even killed Prebek if that matters...
And then i get summoned to the Harper Hold to be confronted with Galvarey at which point Jaheira states she won't fight alongside the Harpers but neither will she aid me so she just LEAVES right there and then!!!
As additional information i had both Viconia and Jaheira in the party...romanced them both until i was forced to choose the path of monogamy and i chose Viconia

For some reason, I've always hated Jaheira. I've never had her in my party, and never will. She is my least favorite character by far. It also seems she causes alot of people technical problems, which is another reason I dislike her. But she just took off? Where did she go? Is she back in front of the Harper building?

I've heard having Viconia and Jaheira in your party at the same time can cause alot of disputs. Jaheira can be a b*tch like that.

The only mention of these events is found in an entry in my journal stating that Jaheira could not take up arms against her fellow harpers. It then adds that i did win the battle(against the aspiring Galvarey) but that now Jaheira is gone.I AM CLUELESS.
There is not even the hint of a hint about what i should do next.Is she lost forever?Like when you upset your NPC's?
Maybe someone has some info about this...I mean DAMN boys this can't be the first time this has happened c'mon..

If it was anyone besides Jareiha, I'd be much more helpful. Seriously, I leave her behind those iron bars everytime I start a new game. :D

I'll search around a bit for you tho.....I may be able to find somthing. If she's gone for good, then you might have to "CLUA Console" her back in.

Thanks Malykor!I really would appreciate it.Don't get me wrong but i'm not exactly stumbling around in the darkness here...
I mean the first time through i consulted with friends when i didn't know what to do and such...
But this time around i spent a LOT of time carefully planning my way through the game,...taking everything into consideration from NPC selection to game progression to...you name it.I dedicated a whole notebook to STATS and ITEMS and this and that....
This is ruining my well devised plan and i hate it when that happens...
One last funny element...i already missed out on 2 side-quests but decided it ain't worth going back...
I mean it seemed so seamless and streamlined at first you know...and now...i encountered this thing...went on these forums and the perfect image of a game i held in high regard is now tarnished because people around here are only talking about some Shadowkeeper and some CLUAconsole and all because you took the wrong dialogue decision or stole some priest of Lathander's statue...Some freedom of choice in action this is...tsk tsk tsk

It's her voice, Malykor, it's her VOICE!

I can't help you much either, Nizidramanii'yt. But I don't think it's just because you were evil. I've been evil, too, and with a bad reputation on top of that, and she stood beside me even so. The best explanation I can give you, is that you discontinued the romance.

Not sure if you've seen this, but this has to do with Jaheira's quests/romances. My only conclusion is, maybe doing both romances and sideing completely with Viconia BEFORE doing these quests messed up your relationship with Jaheira. Therefor making her ditch your party....for good. The romance script is way too complicated for my brain. I was actually hopeing someone would step in and post some info......but no luck there. Just read the following, and tell me what you think. (the last 2 paragraphs are the important ones)

The Jaheira romance has been called the hardest in the game by the development team, and indeed it is quite challenging. It usually takes a long time for the dialogues to trigger, and a lot of them are tied to specific in-game events. Contrary to what has been said on the GameBanshee forums, these dialogues DO sometimes come up in dungeon settings. However, most of the triggers for Jaheira's dialogues are keyed to being outdoors, and possibly to the "Rest Until Healed" option of the game. Several are also keyed to specific quests, which will be discussed later.

The earliest Jaheira romance dialogues are primarily her mourning the loss of Khalid (her husband in BG1, found dead in Irenicus's prison). Be sympathetic at this point, but also try to remind her that there are other things to live for. Eventually they will begin to shift away from Khalid and into other realms of conversation. IIRC, the conversations next shift to discussions of the adventuring life. She'll ask about how you enjoy it, how you feel about battle, and so on. Answer as you feel appropriate, but try to take the balanced paths-she's a druid after all.

Rather than try to coax you through the dialogue like Cyrano, I'll let you figure out the right answers for the most part and take you through the quests: You'll need to do the Jaheira Curse quest (see the walkthrough on this site), and buy her a locket from the fat merchant in the Docks near the temple of Oghma. She'll protest, but shush her and tell her to take it. She'll grumble, but take it and thank you. Then you'll want to do Xzar's quest to get Monty's body from the Harpers, which will trigger the Harper Quests detailed elsewhere on this site. VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: The timer for the Harper Quests is based on game time (x number of days between events), but the timer for the romance dialogues is based on REAL time. Thus, it is possible to rest for several game days in a few minutes of real time. DO NOT DO THIS!!!! Several of Jaheira's romance dialogues can only be triggered by events in the quest, and they will not occur out-of-sequence. In other words, if you haven't gotten through the dialogue immediately preceding the one triggered by a Harper event BEFORE the event occurs, the romance will hang. If your in doubt as to whether you've gotten all the timed dialogues, start B2, pause it, and leave it for a few hours, and you'll get one.

As the Harper quests proceed, Jaheira will begin to question her role and her beliefs as a Harper. Support her, but emphasize that she was in the right and has not truly betrayed her calling. If she starts to get TOO depressed, crack a joke to lighten her mood. Eventually she should admit her feelings for you and ask you to lie with her. And when you wake up, she'll be VERY chipper. Good luck with Jaheira!

Would you happen to have a saved game before you sided with Viconia during your so called "romance battle"? :P This is all pretty much romance based......so if you've already chose Viconia, it's likely to set what I pasted above all to whack.

I do remind you......I'm not that experienced with romances nor Jaheira (I found the romance scripts to be cheesy....maybe it has to do with me bieng older? I'm in my mid 20's atm :p ) So if you tell me none of this makes sense, it won't surprize me in the least. (lol)

It does seem to make sense to me for the most part. From I can tell.....romancing Viconia too soon fu*ked you over. (See what women cause?? Pure Evil they are)

Your help is greatly appreciated. But you underestimate me.I already knew the stuff you posted since i did my research quite thoroughly from at least a dozen sources. But you're right when saying it's just too darn complicated...All the different times ...Game time...actual time...this triggers this...oh don't do that...oh you already did....now you're screwed for good...any last words...BRING UP DA CONSOLE!!!...What the hell?I'm expected to be a part-time programmer so i can get along with this game?
Anyway i found something similar around here by someone called Horrorshow i think stating he too had had a similar problem with the faulty druidess and upon following other people's advice decided to bring someone else into the party who wouldn't cause him to go berserk...or worse
Well people are praising the blade/bard and the awesome power that is Haer'Dalis so i'll give the tiefling actor a chance at greatness...apart from acting
By the way...since i'm in the Baldur's Gate mood...I wonder how many times it will take before i can flawlessly achieve my goals...
By the looks of these forums a lot of times so... on to gaming...

With Jaheria, she is a neutral character. I believe if your reputation is too low she will refuse to fight you. I am not sure, but I do believe this is similar to later when you can only get the harper ring if you are above reputation 14.

Unfortuanetly, she is lost for ever. Load the game and kick her out before hand, making sure she knows to wait at the Copper Coronet. Killing Gavelrey and then take her back in.

P.S. If your reputation is above 14, then I would believe it is because you terminated the romance.

Sadly, the answer appears to be yes if you're wanting the Jaheira romance to progress or get her back. Have recently been there and done that very reluctantly myself. Sounds like you'll have to check and reset a bunch of variables using the console.

Personally, I like the fact that they put a bit of spunk into one of the characters (if you'll pardon the expression); i.e. she will go off in the huff if you do (or fail to do) certain things, while the others tend to just follow you around like sheep no matter what. Sounds like in your case she has given you the bum's rush because the game engine is working properly, not because of a bug.

So, it depends partly on what you mean by "get along with this game". ;)

I met a lot of technical problems with Jaheira, mainly because her romance is tied in with the harpers. But personally, I found the romance extremely rewarding, after reading all the Baldur's Gate books, I just needed Jaheira like air, I dreamt of her and needed to know what it would have been to love her. Ok now before you think I'm nutty, lemme just say that whenever you have a problem with Jaheira, the best thing to do is to just go to a wood-lands area, rest, and when you wake up she should be there.

That's a really good idea Dj venom.Kicking her before meeting Galvarey...But i have really progressed in the game since because i expected her to return to the party EVENTUALLY...Like she had previously done...
So i went ahead and did other quests...which i am reluctant to redo...
And there is no way i am touching the console... since as someone else put it the game engine is working properly...and ...ah well...it is sort of my fault...
Thank you all for replying so quickly...i found the forums to be a lot of help...
and despite this temporary setback let us all continue to enjoy the unequaled experience that is baldur's gate...

No, what he means is he doesn't want to edit it, because if he had properly listened to Jaheria (not that you would want to :p ) he would have realised what he had to do to keep her in the party. As such he is prepared to face the consequenes. I for one would applaud you for taking the consequences, as that truly provides role play, rather than adding her back in. *clap clap* Well Done.

I sort of, no acctually I fully disagree, Jaheira is acctually a very good person, I mean cut her some slack her husband just died! How would you feel if the person you were married to for many years was butchered infront of you? I mean, speaking of rp you should be just a bit compassionate and not just kick her out... She's supposed to be your friend from Baldur's Gate I I think she deserves at least a bit of respect hmm? ^^

Well, firstly in Baldur's Gate I killed her so I could have Khalid and not her :p (I used to love that trick, the same as killing Dynaher and taking Minsc). Also he didn't kick her out, she left him. Also I wouldn't call it the greatest of marriages, it was mostly her telling Khalid to shut up and him stutturing and agreeing. But yes she does deserve a little bit of slack, end her pain by KILLING HER :p LOL!

just for the record, I like Jaheira. She is quite formidable as a tank, she just has limited weapon selection and her spellbook is pretty limited. For instance, what do you take for level 2 spells? They all suck. I have her learn 5 slow poisons that she never uses - in the first part of the game I actually had her casting Goodberries. She does get some great spells, but she misses out on enough cleric stuff to make her not a great main cleric.

My best result with her is to set her up as a sword and shield fighter with Belm, or a Scimitar +3 if you can get one, and then Spectral Brand. She also can fight well with 2 weapons, either scimitars or Spectral Brand and Bone Blade dagger are my choice. My favorite thing for her to use is the Impaler spear though....It's a good old-school Druid weapon, and she can tear up demons and stuff like tissue paper with it with the 1d6+3 +9 damage. She also got a lot better once she got that infinite ammo +3 dart in Watcher's Keep, that was really a great weapon for her. She has a good number of attacks and Iron Skins for protection, plus greater whirlwinds.

In the endgame of SOA I had her take out an Adamantium Golem alone and she did it in 2 rounds I think. Of course, I had Jan take out an Iron Golem alone in HTH combat and Haer Dalis kill a high-level wizard and a pit fiend solo HTH too.

In my last game with her I had her set up with the Dragon helm, Red Dragon Scale, Red Dragon Shield, Boots of the North, and the cloak that reflects lightning - she had permanent 100% fire resistance, lightning resistance, and about 90% cold resistance, she was the elemental warrior of the group.

But I believe you can find better tanks, such as fighters that can have more profiences, or even Anomen is a better tank then here. But one good thing that I just remembered about Jaheria, or druids in general, is insect swarm. Now that is a killer mage spell, if only a good person could have it...

Well, fighters may be better round to round in damage, but Jaheira can heal herself so she is more self-sustaining. She can cast DOOM too, and True Sight, which is really nice, and she has great summons and can turn into a bear! Obviously Korgan is a better tank though. I personally get bored with pure fighters, my last game had all casters, and my current does as well. In my last game my Cleric/Ranger PC got too tough and ended up giving Crom Fayr to Aerie and mostly hanging out casting buffs for Jan. In fact, Jan and Aerie took out the Sarevok wraith by themselves.

I disagree that Anomen is better, he does not have as many attacks per round and cannot cast Ironskins. I guess he is stronger and has more HP, but unless he had Crom Fayr I think Jaheira is better as long as she has at least the gauntlets of Ogre Power - and Anomen doesn't shine unless he has the Gauntlets of Dex, so same difference. She can use better weapons too, except Crom Fayr and the Mace of Disruption. But the Impaler and Spectral Brand are better than what Anomen gets otherwise. Also, in TOB Anomen is completely marginalized as a tank since he has no whirlwinds.

The cleric spell book has some nice things, I like Sanctuary a lot - Anomen can fight until injured, then hide in a santuary and cast heal on himself (or greater restore, and heal the whole party), which Jaheira can't. Anomen can summon skeletons and turn undead, unlike Jaheira...well, like I said she doesn't replace a real cleric. I would like Anomen better if he was a multiclass fighter/cleric, I like multiclass.

Yes, true sight is a good spell which is why I like Keldorn plus he has double level.

I would agree that Anomen would be better if he were multiclassed rather than dualed, but oh well.

And as for who is better, I guess it comes down to your playing style, and what I meant was Anomen was better than Jaheria, not than someone with whirlwind, because as you say that is awesome, though I didn't think druids could, can they?

Anyway, if you can go well with Jaheria, you play with her. I prefer not having her, so I kick her out as soon as possible.

Each to his own.
