Acrimonious and Tessera have announced that they are completely rebuilding their "True" unofficial Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines patch, which is designed to address the game's bugs only rather than introducing any gameplay modifications. Included in the announcement is a list of what's been done in the recompiled patch so far:
Character creation
- Went over all usable histories again. Modified effects known to be bugged. - Fixed the "Skip Tutorial" button. It didn't have any text strings associated with it, so it was using the wrong ones which looked really bizzare. - I think I'll leave histories disabled by default in the next release. The exploit where you go back to clan selection and get your skill points back seems to be directly related to histories. With them disabled, I cannot reproduce it. Of course, I'll include notes on how to re-enable them for players who want to use them anyway. Will also continue looking for a more thorough solution.
Tutorial
- Players will no longer recieve a reward of any kind when skipping the tutorial. I expect this to be an unpopular decision, but it is in keeping with the original game. The xp and items recieved were added by Dan Upright and Wesp. In the original game, you got nothing for skipping the tutorial - Working on a few esthetic improvements, like muzzle flashes on guns. - Other than that, the tutorial seems pretty clean already. Will continue testing to see if I can find any other bugs
Santa Monica
- Redid dialogues for Heather, Jeanette, Tourette, and Bertrum. I've only tested Heather's so far, but she's working nicely. - Fixed a bug in E's dialogue starting condition that checked to see if the player is Nosferatu. - Restored xp for entering the gallery without killing Chunk, and added an appropriate quest state. - Restored Jeanette's e-mail (to the player) again - Changed Malcolm's dialogue so that players no longer say they want a "few hundred bucks" and then only ask for 75. Now, players just say they want "a few bucks" - Made sure Knox will not appear in the Santa Monica hub if he's dead - again
General
- Restored some missing sounds - Cleared the courtroom/theatre after your trial is concluded
